Project T 22: 2 new Tatulas

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

I saw that too. Seems like a lot of hype, excuse me "hyper", for a basically budget priced small BC reel. Might be something no one has heard of just yet or may be the new zillion HD or Exist that we have all seen.

It'll probably be the US Tatula 80 and 70 SV. The pricing is what I am curious about. I hope they don't pull an Alphas SV/SV105 on us and make the US spec considerably more expensive driving up the JDM prices too as a reaction. If we do get a USDM Zillion HD I hope we get a deeper spool.

70 SV pic. Looks like a 28mm spool if the 80 has a 32mm spool. Must be a deep spool for it not to be a Tatula 70 Air reel. How do the guys like the Steez CT 70 with the 30mm SV spool? This is like a poor man version of that reel. I wonder what this thing will weigh. 6.3 oz for the 80 but that could be with an 84mm handle. A lighter weight SV spool might get this thing down to 6.3 oz with a 90mm handle.

Maybe it's a 30mm SV spool. The 80 has a bit of a gap because it's a 32mm spool on a 33mm platform and this gap appears to be slightly bigger so that probably makes it a 30mm spool.

The Tat 80 is $165 in Digitaka.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Daiwa likes to charge more for US reels. $225 for a USDM $185 Alphas SV. $700 for a USDM $500 Steez CT. I would expect a $199 Tatula 80 which is actually pretty close to what we can preorder a JDM Tatula 80. The going rate on current Tatulas has a lot of disparity between US and non US markets. On Aliexpress the 100 is $120, the SV is $140-170and the Elite is $174. Street prices on the USDM models are not nearly as cheap. Used Elites are going for what Aliexpress charges for a new one.

Yep a $199 msrp for the USDM Tatula 80 off Daiwa US. Might want to lock in a sub $199 JDM reel order if they raise prices on those to match. No guarantee retailers will raise the price on tbe JDM reels but they did it once before with the Alphas SV when the USDM "SV105" was launched. The USDM gets a 90mm handle at 6.5 oz. The JDM has an 84 mm handle I believe and is 6.3 oz so that would confirm a shorter handle. Still a $35 savings. A cheap carbon handle can be had for less than $20 like I posted above.

Good looking little reel. I like the glossy black and styling on the non handle side plate. It does bother me that they show it on a Tatula Elite rod which is silver. The Alphas looks best on those. Also bothers me that the Tatula rods have gloss black paint on the reel seat but the regular Tatula is matte black. Don't know why Daiwa can't figure this out. Oh well. Youtube watching zoomers that are the future of the sport like matching rods and reels. Get on it Daiwa.

Brake dial is the biggest difference between the Tatula 70 and Alphas SV TW. Spools of course will be different but, can't tell truthfully until you fish them side by side

Gearing too I imagine. Pretty sure these get new gears but at hyperdrive. BUT they are Tatulas so they will be all over the place in smoothness. I'm up to 5 of the things plus two Tatula based Zillions and none of them are comparable to my OG Alphas or Zillions in smoothness. These new ones are Alphas based so maybe that level of smoothness trickles down.

10lbs of drag on these. Going to be a problem for the US market that has convinced itself that it needs monster drag pressure. Had a guy on another board going on about how the Curado 150 MGL was a GAME CHANGER because it had 2lbs more drag than a 200k. Thats how the average US angler's brain works. They look at the numbers and that's it. Numba go up for drag then thats good. Numba go down for weight then thats good.

Look at the Bantam. Users on the less astute bass forum were questioning why the Bantam should even exist because the Metanium has more drag and is lighter for the same $. You don't satisfy the drag/weight/price criteria and you don't get to exist. Also the US market HATES those thin new style knobs. Daiwa does not understand the US market at all. Every US model needs the chunkie knobs. Every new model needs to 1 up the last in drag power.

I know Daiwa will say "look at the HD reels for more drag" but those are 2014 reels they painted matte black. They are not new and they are huge. Guys are flipping with Tatula 200s just because of the big drag number and long handle. Why can't the 80 get a big drag number so mr. Big Numba can flip with something palmable that also doesn't weigh 8 oz?
