Unlimited drag reel

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

Unlimited drag reel

Post by LowRange » Fri Apr 01, 2022 9:02 am

Image

A reel with no drag. The handle is locked to the main gear. Will this bring an end to this crazy drag number trend? Why does this trend even exist. 9lbs of drag was the norm for ages. Is it the recent boat flipping trend driving this?

"KastKing built the Speed Demon Deadbolt reel that is a real performance baitcasting reel with no drag. Let me repeat…no drag. There's no star drag. The fishing reel is locked down solid. There's no drag so there's no chance of your drag slipping or ever loosening up. This is a boon for power anglers everywhere who fish heavy cover. That's what the Deadbolt is all about; fishing heavy cover. Flip your bait in the thicket, hook them up, and get them out without the drag slipping. There’s no question that they’re coming out."

I thought there was an Ardent reel like that a while back. It had a narrow spool and the line guide was stationary.

I foresee a lot of rod warranties in this reel's future.

I also foresee a lot of reel warranty claims for KastKing. 10+ gear ratio and direct drive? That's a recipe for disaster.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

I guess you'll have some drag once the A/R bearing gives up the ghost.

I think it was a Denny Brauer model.

Deps also had the direct drive reel built on the OG Zillion.....but that's a Zillion.

Now, instead of going buzzy in a week, it will be buzzy in a day. KastKing design is always smart.

I use the Daiwa/Deps DR-100ZXL on my 21 Steez AGS Flip Pitch Punch 711XH and it's a really fun combo to fish.

Now the big question is, what will break first? The pinion crown, AR bearing, or the bearing retaining pin?

Those had drag but where just on lock down all the time. The kast king thing says it has no drag at all. If it does have a drag but it is just non adjustable and on lock down like the ardent flipping reel and that deps zillion then thats not too bad and is something that is somewhat proven. Not sure why you would want that. Maybe the drag washers weaken over time.

UMMMMM...hard no-going-backwards-drag PASS.

As stated, what will fail first, the rod, reel, components within the reel, line...

There will likely be plenty that will get on board...my word of caution is buying one of these "used". Lol.
