Daiwa Tatula 300/400 Review?
Hi , I am looking for reviews on the Tatula 300 I am looking for a larger capacity reel for inshore use and also for swimbaits up to 2 ounces for Barramundi in the rivers, So far what i have seen about the reel has been positive , I like the fact they have gone back to dual bearing supported pinion gear and a bearing on the spool which eliminates the reason why I disliked tatulas so much in the beginning. I will be running 40lb or 5olb braid with 6 foot 50 to 80lb leaders of mono or fluro, Need the heavy leader for Barra due to the sand paper jaws and razor sharp gill plates.
So anyone that uses one regularly feel free to add your comments.
especially interested in casting abilities in the 1 to 2 ounce range. I will be using a 6'9" pe 2 to 4 rod rated to 2 1/4 ounces

I have a 300 that I have been using for King Salmon and it been great reel, it has held up perfectly, the drag is one of the best I have ever used, it cast well and stays smooth under heavy loads. I wasn't super impressed with it while sitting on the couch but once I hit the water I was very impressed, it's my favorite 300 size reel so far. If I lost it I would buy another in a minute.

The 300 is the bee's knees!
That said, make sure you need the capacity and power. It is an 11oz reel and you feel every bit of it.
For me, bass fishing with it was overkill.
Barramundi look like a blast and could put up a fight worthy of the reel though.

I run a 300 on my 806 for big glidebaits. I got a Tranx 300 on the 807 and might like the Tatula 300 just as much, if not more. It casts and reels 2-5oz glides smoothly and balances well for such a heavy setup. Not sure on saltwater suitability, that’s where I go to the Tranx.
As mentioned before, make sure you really need that 300 reel. For swimbaits around 2oz I prefer a Tat 200 or Zillion HD.

I had no idea they had dual supported pinion. I thought they had: 8 total, for 2 main shaft, 1 anti reverse, 1 pinion, 2 spool, and one in each knob. I was pretty sure they don't actually have dual pinion support unless design is new/different. I have been interested in one of the Tatula 300s, but for mid+ swimbaits and A-rigs. I need to find a rod first and it is hard for me to buy a reel like this knowing I rarely catch fish on those lures.BARRAMANIAC wrote: ↑Sun Jun 05, 2022 5:20 pmHi , I am looking for reviews on the Tatula 300 I am looking for a larger capacity reel for inshore use and also for swimbaits up to 2 ounces for Barramundi in the rivers, So far what i have seen about the reel has been positive , I like the fact they have gone back to dual bearing supported pinion gear and a bearing on the spool which eliminates the reason why I disliked tatulas so much in the beginning. That being said, I had seen a few reviews where people mentioned the thumb bar not engaging after a cast. Other than that most reviews were favorable and put it ahead of the Tranx 300.

Daiwa doesnt include the antireverse bearing in their bearing count usually. i have seen a tare down video and it does indeed have the second bearing on the pinion

You can see the schematics on plat too and it shows the dual bearing supported pinion gear as well.BARRAMANIAC wrote: ↑Mon Jun 06, 2022 2:44 pmDaiwa doesnt include the antireverse bearing in their bearing count usually. i have seen a tare down video and it does indeed have the second bearing on the pinion

After a bit more looking I think The Steez A HLC would do what I need. A bit more capacity than the 1000 size reels and still light and compact enough. I have a spare zillion G brass gear set that could go in as well.RMCatchNrelease wrote: ↑Mon Jun 06, 2022 6:43 amThe 300 is the bee's knees!

Re: Daiwa Tatula 300/400 Review?
My bad, I didn't fully profess to be right, just surprised they changed it. After looking at schematics myself, I found it to be: 2 spool bearings (#14 & 19), 2 pinion bearings (#31 & 44), 1 mainshaft bearing (#83), anti-reverse (#82), and I assume 1 per knob for 8 total. Confused me because I kept thinking it should have 9 total to be dual support but the bearing that rides against the frame under the mainshaft, part #67, is listed as a gear shaft collar. So it is a bushing on the 300. On my other reels the clutch cam bearing (second pinion bearing) is missing and the frame has a bearing to dually support the main shaft.BARRAMANIAC wrote: ↑Mon Jun 06, 2022 2:44 pmDaiwa doesnt include the antireverse bearing in their bearing count usually. i have seen a tare down video and it does indeed have the second bearing on the pinion

I checked it too, part #67 is indeed a ballbearing.DirtyD64 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 12:45 pmMy bad, I didn't fully profess to be right, just surprised they changed it.
