My epitome is cursed

Otherwise what's the odds of salt falling out of the hook hole in a sweet beaver on another rod and eating the frame of a steez limited?

WOWZERS...that sux man. I have never heard of anything like that happening, although I am always cautious of using any salt impregnated baits with my MG reels.

Was this is a rod locker? Did water get in and the salt from the baits make a brine? Looks like the reel sat partially submerged in water.

After you've cleaned it, if it still works, coat the damaged areas with clear nail polish, relube it, and keep fishing it.

Thats wild, I fish my metaniums in salt and it doesn’t do that.

It was not in the rod locker, it was in the shop leaned up in the corner and the beaver was on a rod above it, that's my plan to cover in clear nail polish and fish it. It's never been anywhere other than lake blackshear and farm ponds so only freshwater. I did soak it in water overnight to make sure anything dissolved from the start of the damage.

You can treat the Mg with a particular Chromic acid (is cancer causing so be careful), and there's something I remember about flouride that creates a surface coating.

But the process has to be quick as Mg corrodes in the exposed area with air alone and the process goes on.

I aggressively scrubbed the crap out of my Core 50Mg and cleaned the area with citric acid and neutralised and repeated the process a few times. Then straight into filling the exposed area with warmed up 24 hour epoxy and ensured that it got to all the nooks and crannies.

Salt is the worst for Mg but don't think that freshwater is any less, especially palm sweat and it's salts and oils etc...

Aluminium boats use a Mg based anode for freshwater use than typical aluminium zinc anodes.

That should never happen to any MG reel, they need to improve their coatings, I have a metanium that I use in salt water all the time and have never had corrosion like that.

I despise all salty plastics. There are better ways to make plastic baits heavier and less durable.
