Re: Calcutta Conquest SE
I will be buying the Conquest SE for sure. Might save the refund I got for my busted Stradic FM and use it to lessen the sting of the SE. Really hope the make the improvement for casting better than that of the Metanium Shallow Edition (versus regular spool). In the Metanium aspect, the shallow spool weighs a bit more (I know because a shallower spool has a larger circumference of metal) and only moderately increases light lure casting abilities.

Hi Ray. Can you help me understand? These posts seem to contradict each other. Did you learn something we should know?

Re: Calcutta Conquest SE
I may have to give the MM gig another chance, since this reel has "Ultra high strength brass".
The specs and overall aesthetics are beautiful on this reel and the 7.4 gear ratio provides for roughly 30 IPT at full spool, so very versatile gear ratio for mag-finesse techs.

Re: Calcutta Conquest SE
Last Shimano I owned was the 15 Metanium DC. Before that it was the old 50/51 series. This reel has me intrigued. So there are 3 versions of this? The standard higher line capacity, the BFS offering, and this mid depth spool version?
Re: Calcutta Conquest SE
There are plenty of versions, lol.
1. BFS
2. 30 size spool (this one)
3. Regular version 100-200-300-400 size (300-400 might not be sold anymore)
4. Monster Drive (300-400 size)
5. DC version (100-200 size)
I'm not sure if all of them are still on sale, but these are the variations I'm aware.

Re: Calcutta Conquest SE
SE RH on preorder on Plat. Discounted 10%. Same price as Digitaka advertised price
Re: Calcutta Conquest SE
Hope the US dollar recovers a bit before this reel arrives. It got to a high of like 151 last I saw, now it is closer to 142.

I’ll probably try it out

Re: Calcutta Conquest SE
Just got a message from Digitaka, the RH model is in stock, will post a review after I receive it
Re: Calcutta Conquest SE
Ordered mine today!!! Very excited to have my second Conquest. Considering buying a BFS version eventually just to say I have one, will be hard to do though cause my little Aldebaran has been tough.
I still hope Daiwa releases a new Ryoga. I really like round reels. I noticed the Millionaire was back in stock today too, would be hard pressed to not grab another one of them too.
I will post up a story on if the Shallow spool Conquest makes a difference or not. I have around 2/3 30lb braid on my 100HG and fish it with 14lb Shooter, plan on doing the same with the SE but using no backing. I won't be too upset if there is little improvement because the 100HG already casts down to 3/16 fairly well.

Re: Calcutta Conquest SE
Just got mine in. Super, super greasy. Had another angler I know play with the reel in hand and ask why it was so tight. I turned the handle and a click happened then the reel was smooth again.
I hate to complain but it was odd. You have to barely turn the handle and only one click happens, this leaves the reel feeling rough whilst turning, like it didn't fully reengage. Either way it is a very hard problem to replicate, any idea what is causing this on a brand new reel?
Re: Calcutta Conquest SE
I had a Daiwa Tatula CT that was having a similar issue--when I press the thumb bar, then go to turn the handle to engage the reel it would feel really tight and be hard to reel until I pressed the thumb bar again and turned the handle. It felt like the reel wasn't really fully engaged.DirtyD64 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 01, 2024 8:35 am

I ended up taking the reel apart and think it was that the A/R ratchet wasn't seated down on the drive shaft properly. There was a lot of grease down there and after wiping off some of the excess grease, wiping the ratchet, and putting the reel back together it fixed the issue.
I would imagine that if the reel arrived really greasy, then you may want to crack it open and wipe off all the grease and lightly coat it and put it back together.
