Clacutta te 201 vs te 201gt
Clacutta te 201 vs te 201gt
I was wondering what the differences between the te 201 and the te 201gt was, I can’t find much online about just the te 201 and from looking at them in pictures I can only see that the gt has more milling done to it, but I have only held a te so I not sure
Re: Clacutta te 201 vs te 201gt
IIRC, TE = Total Efficiency= HEG gears, which is Shimano lexicon for oversized main gear.
TT review is very detailed and worth the read...it's the reason I bought mine back in the day. Lol.
Evidently they are both the same reel, with 200GT being the shortened model name and TE 200GT being the full model name.

Re: Clacutta te 201 vs te 201gt
Thanks, yeah I’ve looked at that post a few times, I actually just bought one and it looks identical to that but without the extra milled holes at the top and it doesn’t have the gt on it, and then the side just says Calcutta te 201
Re: Clacutta te 201 vs te 201gt
I recall there being a GT model as well, but I never owned that reel, only the TE GT...the confusion in the review may be TT not using the full model name each time, TE 200GT.

Re: Clacutta te 201 vs te 201gt
So I’ve done a little more research, what I’ve found is that it looks as though there is only need a GT model in right hand, but a TE model in both hands, so a te 200, te 200 gt, te 201 and no te 201gt and the same goes for the 50 size, at least from a model schematics list, so unless they just missed the two left handed gt models then they were never made, unless I am missing some other things the only difference I can spot are the holes drilled in the top of the body maybe making it lighter for the GT model. Then the JDM conquest is again identical internally, except for a perforated metal side plate with a plastic cover underneath to keep water out the same holes in the top of the body of the GT, then as driven2fish says the conquest has a clicking drag, and spool adjustment knob, then a forged handle and star drag and those are the only differences. Though I would really like to find part numbers for that forged star drag, and handle to swap on to my te

Re: Clacutta te 201 vs te 201gt
The GT was the XT in Australia, I've got the 50, 100 and 200XT.
The GT models 50 through 250 were just ported to reduce weight but invertibly the same Calcutta as the B series (bar the aluminium handle shafts if I remember correctly).
The TE's were a nice reel, cancelled way too soon.

Re: Clacutta te 201 vs te 201gt
The GT only came in a right hand model and it had a smaller line cap, whiffle spool and drilled crossbar.
I think a few more bearing too but I can’t recall for sure.
I have the GT and I don’t regret ever buying it! Still use it today!

Re: Clacutta te 201 vs te 201gt
I have the TE 200GT. Still one of my main reels. Bulletproof. More bearings and the spool were the big things between the regular and the GT. Some other minor stuff, but it was mostly about the bearings. IIRC, the GT was one of the first uber priced baitcasters, and pretty much the direct predecessor to the Conquest.
Re: Clacutta te 201 vs te 201gt
The GT version had the shallow drilled spool, holes in the frame to reduce some weight and 4 bearings in the handle. The regular TE had a deep spool and bushings in the handle knobs. Slight performance upgrade and a slightly higher cost when they were available.
