Daiwa Tatula 200 or Type HD (beater saltwater reel)
Daiwa Tatula 200 or Type HD (beater saltwater reel)
Any difference between these 2 models? Is the type HD an older model - I vaguely recall the first gen Tatulas having T wing issues. Will be running braid to leader.
Any other suggestions for throwing 1-3oz baits in that price range would be appreciated

Same reel. They renamed the old Tatula HD 150 a Tatula HD 200 in 2019 or so when they came out with the last gen Tatula 100. I've got a JDM Tatula 150 Custom and it's just a fancy Tatula 200.

If you really want to be cheap the Johncoo Ares would be a good beater 200+ capacity reel for salt. You'll need to grease and oil as they come dry and crunchy/geary out of the box. I have 2. $48 aluminum frame and double aluminum side place double pinion supported 9.9 oz 200/300 size reel. It's big like an old Lexa 300 and has the same capacity which is also the same as the Tatula "200".

I'll second this. Hard to beat for the money. A little on the heavy side and the knobs are a little weird, but I'm nit-picking.LowRange wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 8:59 amIf you really want to be cheap the Johncoo Ares would be a good beater 200+ capacity reel for salt. It does handle high resistance baits pretty well, too. The one I have has gold trim, but the newest one is as pictured above, with silver trim. It will be 3 weeks or so shipping from Aliexpress.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Where is the Silver trim one? The lews XH rod I have mine on has silver trim. I don't like the knobs either. They are barrel shaped but too short to grab and stuff into your palm like I would want on a round knob forcing me to only pinch grip them and in that case I would want sculpted paddle or I type. No biggie because handles are dirt cheap on Aliexpress. Both of mine have carbon fiber power handles ranging from an $11 Daiwa HD EVA knob style to a $17 Gomexus TPE style handle.hoohoorjoo wrote: ↑Fri Jan 05, 2024 5:37 pmI'll second this. I think I saw them on aliexpress right before Christmas. Yours appeared to be silver trimmed, which is why I mentioned it.LowRange wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 4:55 amWhere is the Silver trim one? That's just the low quality embedded pic. It's got gold trim.hoohoorjoo wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 6:32 amI think I saw them on aliexpress right before Christmas.
