2024 Metanium DC
Re: 2024 Metanium DC
I've always liked the regular Metanium and I'm lookikng forward to using the DC model. I will probably be replacing my Calcutta DC that I have been using for almost 20 years.
Re: 2024 Metanium DC
A Shimano Pro staff mentioned Ci4+ side plates on US version, both side plates or just palming side plate?
Screws going into a handle side Ci4+ side plate is a big NO NO for me.

Re: 2024 Metanium DC
SLX XT DC has a bit less tech, a bit more weight (6.8ish versus 6.2ish) but a LOT less expensive ($205 Digitaka). Apples to oranges? Not sure…
I kinda feel if I’m gonna sink $350 (JDM Met DC price) into a reel, I don’t want the $$ going to DC tech; I have a functional thumb for that. Or is that underselling the benefits of DC even for an experienced baitcaster?

Still having a hard time wrapping my head around not having a factory drag clicker in this day and age, I refuse to add a Chinese manufactured part to a JDM masterpiece. Perhaps Sagisi will corner the market with one of his creations.

It's a matter of R.O.I. as well for Ryan, mostly the time and effort aspect. How many of these clicking conversion kits for the 2024 Met DC would even be sold if 100% of all the buyers were to do so? I suppose it would be way more viable for Sagisi if the kit were to cross over to other more volume based Shimano models rather than just the 2024 Met DC.rocketsurgeon wrote: ↑Sun Jan 21, 2024 7:00 amStill having a hard time wrapping my head around not having a factory drag clicker in this day and age, I refuse to add a Chinese manufactured part to a JDM masterpiece. Re: 2024 Metanium DC
It would be madness for them to abandon a practice that's 30+ yrs old. All the reels I've seen that have screws going into a plastic sideplate have had brass inserts for the machine screws to thread into, regardless of brand. If it is indeed coarse thread screws attaching directly to plastic sideplates, then I am bitterly disappointed in Shimano. Every $20 aliexpress reel I've seen have integrated the brass inserts into the sideplate when it is poured into the mold. Abu has done this on the Revo series since day one. There's a long screw that passes thru from the gear plate to the palm plate and screws into a brass insert in the palm plate to hold the sideplate after you twist-lock it into place. It's still not the best practice, because I have seen those inserts let go and just spin inside the plastic.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Re: 2024 Metanium DC
I'll buy one if brass gears from normal met fit in it.
Re: 2024 Metanium DC
Most likely will buy one just to have a DC reel since i've sold mines. And i also like how the modes adjustment is outside. About time they did it.
Re: 2024 Metanium DC
Never had a size 70 reel before. Is it more specific for pitching and shorter casts due to the line capacity? Looking to replace my 15 Met DC as an all purpose reel for under 1/2 oz lures.
