Daiwa Tatula 300 Question
Daiwa Tatula 300 Question
Why is the drag so buttery smooth on the Tat 300? It's easily the smoothest drag I've ever experienced on any baitcaster.
Is it a new grease Daiwa is using?
The rest of the reel is also extremely impressive...but I'm amazed at the buttery drag on this beast.

Re: Daiwa Tatula 300 Question
My guess would be that because you are testing it, the reel's drag range is more on the lower end rather than closer to the max.
I am just guessing, but I would guess a reel with such a high drag rating would feel good at test ranges. Now if you are talking about while fish are pulling, maybe they have changed something, or you just got a really good one.

Re: Daiwa Tatula 300 Question
Lol I have other 300 sized reels - this one's drag is special.
Re: Daiwa Tatula 300 Question
I should have known that, not sure why I thought you wouldn't have felt other 300 reels. I eventually would like to get a 5.3 300 for A-rigs and bigger swimbaits. What gear ratio do you have? I was most surprised and proven wrong a while back by the fact that the 300 Tatula has dual pinion support. I would assume that would help out with drag feel too.

Re: Daiwa Tatula 300 Question
I’m happy to hear that. Mine is being delivered today! For anyone interested, there’s new 8.1’s on the bay for under $190. 42 IPT!
Re: Daiwa Tatula 300 Question
Out of the box mine had a pretty heavy winding resistance to it but in a good way - very refined and smooth just not free spinning. Feels like sticky grease that will stay put, which is good since I'll be using this reel in salt. Let us know if your drag is as smooth as mine lol.MountainMan 83 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2024 6:01 amI’m happy to hear that. Mine is being delivered today! Re: Daiwa Tatula 300 Question
I got the 7:1 for swimbaits big topwater and magnum cranks - it's going on a 9ft XH rod so the faster IPT will help me work the lures w/o having to swing the rod tip.
I don't think you need 5:1 ratio reels unless you can't slow yourself down creeping a hud or something.
Re: Daiwa Tatula 300 Question
You can also get them from Aliexpress for a bit cheaper at $140 before tax but you have to wait a month for it to arrive.MountainMan 83 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2024 6:01 amI’m happy to hear that. Mine is being delivered today! For anyone interested, there’s new 8.1’s on the bay for under $190. 42 IPT!
Re: Daiwa Tatula 300 Question
Does anyone happen to know the proper size for the handle?
My 300 just arrived and I can't figure out if its 7x4mm or 8x5mm?
I see that some Tatula are 8x5mm but I don't know if that applies to all of them (and I don't have my calipers handy)
Thanks

As far as I know, Daiwa has always been 8x5 but I can double check tonight.

Re: Daiwa Tatula 300 Question
simplest way to remember the rule of thumb, shimano is 7x4, daiwa is 8x5. afaik it’s always been this way and there hasn’t been any exceptions to it.
Re: Daiwa Tatula 300 Question
Older Shimano Bantams from the 1980s are compatible with the Daiwa 8x5.HellaBread wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2024 10:52 pmsimplest way to remember the rule of thumb, shimano is 7x4, daiwa is 8x5. afaik it’s always been this way and there hasn’t been any exceptions to it.

Re: Daiwa Tatula 300 Question
If that is the case, I'd rather get the 6.3 from Japan, much cheaper there. The 6.3 is like 85cm or 33.5" per turn, and the 5.3 is 28.1" per turn. My current old Zillion TWS 7.3 works fine with 25lb fluoro, just felt a 300 would be better. I always assumed that even 28 IPT was too fast for big keitechs and small A-rigs...reason162 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 05, 2024 9:19 amI got the 7:1 for swimbaits big topwater and magnum cranks - it's going on a 9ft XH rod so the faster IPT will help me work the lures w/o having to swing the rod tip.

Re: Daiwa Tatula 300 Question
Just took the handle off, it’s the standard 8x5 with a big boi 12mm nut holding it on. First impressions are this things a beast! Wish it came with a metal drag star though. Going to test it out this weekend.
