New pixy

Reels are the hottest topic for TackleTour. Everyone wants to know what the latest and greatest is and how they compare to the old guard. What's the best for light stuff, or what's your suggestion for heavy cover. Do we really need different retrieve ratios? It's all in here.

How about another Tatula. The new BF 70 is coming. That makes 12 Tatulas listed on Daiwa's web sight.
This is based on the Alphas Air TW, not the tatula 70/80 frame.
The new Tatula BF 70 is already available on Tackle Warehouse. It has a BFS spool.
That Tatula BF 70 is a clone of Salamandura air of last year just different color. I prefer salamandura over Tatula.

With these prices, imagine if the IMZ is released in NA. Probably $1900 for the reel :laugh1:

Gotcha. The overseas market already has the Salamandura Air TW, which is the same reel as that Tatula BF70. However, its a heck of a lot better looking than the bland grayscale reels we are getting in the States. I have one and its a really great reel. Got it for less than $190, so a much better deal, too.

Me too, I even thinking about making two tone color out of these new Alphas to make it more interesting. Luckily I have three of these beauties.

Two of the 3 reels I regret selling.

I am interested in a new Alphas or Pixy for BFS. I was looking at the Alphas 800S (shallow spool) or the Air version. My old Alphas SV105 with a 33mm spool doesn't cast very well when the line guide is all the way to the left or right. Once you take off about 2mm of line from the top of the spool, the angles on the line guide get more manageable and it casts much better because of less friction on the line guide. I think this is why the old 31mm spool on the old Pixy casts better with a full spool than the Alphas. Hopefully, the new SV spools on the Alphas and Pixy don't need less line than a full spool to cast well. I wouldn't think so with the TWS, but I sure don't want to lose Inches Per Turn of line pick up by being forced to have less than a full spool. I can't stand running a small diameter spool without it not being full of line. You need a 10 to 1 gear ratio to make up for it.

The Alphas Air TW or the Salamandura Air TW would be the reel for you. The spools are pretty shallow, so its not feasible to use them with less than a full spool.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Thanks. That is what I expected. It always bothers me when I see someone fishing a spool that is not even close to full.

The Daiwa 21 Alphas SV TW 800 is a sweet little reel built like a mini Panzer, you can swing both ratio's on Amazon for the price of one pixy.

Pixy does have a cult following.

The cult that follows it expects colors and style. This is a fake pixy [-(

I was hoping to see something new. Maybe an entirely new frame with no T-wing. Thing is though, T-wing is kind of Daiwa's feature now, and I am not sure frames will get much smaller than the new Alphas style reels.

This is one of the reasons I think we see such small changes with new generations, scared that reel technology is going to plateau.

I don’t mind alphas frame but give me back the brake dial, TWS is fine but such a narrow spool TDZ line guide would be perfect too. Now to call PIXY, I would love magnesium frame to be super light plus some Daiwa colorful.
