flourocarbon?

Post by bassfishin14 » Wed Apr 27, 2011 4:14 pm

anyone know of a good flourocarbon for fishing 1/2 football head jigs in deep rocky water, and some pitching wood cover?

just picked up a DX 744 for this application.

im gunna do the buy 2 spools of abrazx and get a free spool of tatsu. was thinking about getting 12lb for my light jig/light texas rig rod, then the 15 for all around fishing. and then the 20lb tatsu for my DX 744?

if anyone has a better opinon for anything else please mention.

thanks!

15lb or 20lb Trilene 100%. It is now my favorite fluorocarbon for pitching jigs and t-rigs.

I would go with your plan as well, sounds like you got a good range of lines there.

your plan sounds good although i would step your texas rigs up to 15 lb. Seaugar has very thin diameter so 15 almost seems like 12

i would only use the 12lb for my texas rigs that are 1/4 and below. i have the DX 744 for heavier texas rigs and im gunna either put 15lb or the 20lb tatsu for that. but thanks guys!

i fish a lot of seaguar flouro. for deep rocky water you want to use the 15lb (.013" diameter) and the 20lb (.016" diameter. With seaguar, the lines are rated more like Japanese line, which means they are much closer to actual break strength. For comparison, 15lb 100% Berkley fluoro is .015" diameter and has a breaking strength over 20lbs and 20lb Berkley 100% fluoro is around .018" diameter and breaking strength closer to 25lbs+.

i do use 12lb tatsu for finesse jigs in deep water, but it is a different animal than their other lines. i broke the hook in a terminator spinnerbait with 15lb tatsu on a straight pull. the 20lb tatsu is the only fluoro i have fished in a long time that has the impact resistance for flipping and pitching. it also lasts a very long time. the 20lb tatsu is VERY hard to break on a straight pull. I have broken jig hooks and had to wrap the line around the handle of a pair of pliers to get it to break.

just my thoughts, hope it helps.

i to had that with the tatsu. i got snagged on a tree in a conoe that i own and it was only 12lb test, i couldnt break it if my life depended on it! LOL i tried everything to get that snag out but it wasnt happening. after a good 5min at it i just cut it and there went my tatsu.

i loved the line but the price is the only thing holding me back. but what im hearing from everyone is that it last way longer than most flouro? i tend to go thru regular flouro pretty quick. so im thinking the tatsu might be a better approach? what do you think? i also take care of it with KVD's line care.

thanks!

my tatsu lasted me all season last year without changing spools. about two tournaments a month and 4-5 trips a month. i treated it the night before a fishing trip with kvd and then again once i came off the water with kvd. i am going to do the same this year. it was getting a little wiry by the end of the season, but still no breakoffs due to the line.

I personally dont go under 20lb abrazx and prefer 25 for flipping and larger football jigs. I use 15 for crankbaits and break it ocasionally.
