cutting braided line
I am having some difficulties cutting the tag ends of my braided line, as well as cutting the lure off when changing lures. I am using the Berkley pliers available at walmart (which says its for braided lines)..it works, its just extremely hard to cut the line....so my question is....what do you use to easily cut your braided lines at the knot or tag end? I am looking for a better option. Thanks

Re: cutting braided line
My knife works best but you can use scissors, pliers, or nail clippers too. The latter two won't do it as well but they still work. With The nail clippers and pliers, I push hard enough to hear a click, then pull back without releasing the pressure.

Re: cutting braided line
wire cutters work for me
Re: cutting braided line
Sharp scissors are the way to go (I think)...My Bass Pro just clearanced a ton of their small scissors for $.88/each...I bought 10.

I like the smaller profile of the nail clipper and keep them on a Badge Reel for easy access . A quick tug to the side gives you a pretty good cut.

Re: cutting braided line
Ive tried nail clippers, maybe mine are too dull...they are old leftover used ones ..great idea on the badge reel though I'm stealing that one!

Small pair of sharp scissors for me as well.
Re: cutting braided line
u mean on the knot? usually the knot is bulkier n i more often than not use the plier's wire cutter n it do the job real quick.... however using a knife is better for the straight main line tho
btw... i'm using no more than 20lb braid, i'm not sure if heavier line are harder to cut never try em before

Toe nail clippers will give better leverage than finger nail clippers.
Serrated scissors work better than non-serrated scissors.

Re: cutting braided line
X2 on this. I use their $9.99 pliers/ braid cutter which work well, but a bit clumsy, especially for tag ends. I picked up their braid scissors (cheapies) and they work great. Clean cuts on tag ends and everything else.steve1206 wrote:Sharp scissors are the way to go (I think)...My Bass Pro just clearanced a ton of their small scissors for $.88/each...I bought 10.
Now I'm cutting 20lb braid. Not sure how well they would work if I was cutting 150lb braid

Fiskars are the best scissors I have used for cutting braid, there also cheap.
You can buy them at walmart for around 3 bucks

Re: cutting braided line
I've found that scissors dull quickly, and clippers don't cut heavy braid too well.
I keep a razor sharp boot knife nearby for the job.
Slices through braid easily and can come in handy for lots of other tasks.

The little scissors on my Leatherman are amazing at cutting braid and tag ends!
