Do braid scissors work?

Post by Questor » Mon May 16, 2011 5:20 am

I've been thinking of getting some of the specialized scissors for cutting braid. Do they work on 14# braid and smaller? Do they last reasonably long? Thanks.

Yes, but it's more practical to just buy some super sharp titanium scissors.

I think scissors are the best tools for cutting braid...They don't have to be labeled "braid scissors." They just need to be new/sharp.

You need the ones with serated teeth.

You don't need serated teeth or super sharp titanium. Get the $3 Fiskars kid scissors from WalMart. They work great, have blunt tips and last a long time. I have several pairs, one in each of my tackle boxes that I've had for several years and all of them cut like the day they were new.

Definitely get proper PE scissors. I have scissors from Owner, another one from Japan(cant remember the brand) and also a Berkley one (the cheapest). The Berkley one works fine-I use it to cut PE from 4lb to 50lb.

They dont stay sharp forever, but will last longer if u look after them. In any case, the Berkley ones are so cheap, just buy another one.

I don't think the scissors matter. I use normal everyday scissors or the ones on my leatherman.

I agree....I think I mentioned it in the other post but the Bass Pro scissors were on sale for $.88 at my store. I bought 10 pair for the second time.

I use a pair of rapala line clipers for all my lines and I have a retracable line on it so its always at my hip, plus its nice and compact.

I've got Rapalas, Gerbers, and the Bass Pro plus the Fiskars. I cut 10# & 20# braid & Fireline and can't tell any difference in the higher priced ones and the Fiskars. I bought a half dozen pair of the Fiskars off E-Bay for less than $10 / shipped. If I lose a pair no worries.
