Nanofil.....knots.....

http://www.stripersonline.com/forum/thr ... -and-knots

Figured I'd post a link to the thread I started on SOL. As it pertains to this line and its knotting nightmares.
I haven't put it on my knot testing jigs as of yet as I've been preoccupied with other things (rigging tuna gear) But I'll post some official numbers when I have the chance.

Bear in mind I haven't formed any opinions regarding its casting performance.

I can say however. Fireline original is a much stronger line. So if you removed the package label strength and just compared it by diameter. Nanofil is the weaker line in terms of ABS and KBS. It does have the same wire like characteristic like fresh FL (which I love) only MUCH SMOOTHER.

I checked to see if posted links to other fishing sites was on the up and up. And didn't see anything that pertained to it. IF IT"S AGAINST THE RULES AND I MISSED THEM. BY ALL MEANS TAKE DOWN THE LINK

Here are a couple links to some testing by one of my favorite bloggers (hey, gotta stick with my fellow Hoosiers, right? :D ) on the Nanofil line:

From the looks of his testing, this line is VERY limited with regards to what knots will maintain decent strength in the line.

ScoobyDoo... I take a pragmatic view in my fishing and expect enough knot strength to catch large smallmouth bass with. A garage test of simple 5 wrap up and 5 wrap down Alberto knots using 10lb Nanofil and 8lb Trilene fluorocarbon yielded slipping knot results when pulled with significantly more force than I could provide while fishing. I added a small swipe of Loctite super glue and found the knot became stronger than both lines.

While an Alberto knot with a 3/8" braid tag end held throughout two relatively short fishing jaunts adding a little super glue may provide additional security (both physical and mental). In my opinion, the increased casting distance of this line warrants a little extra attention to knots being used with it.
