Best line for big SwimBait???

Post by mmasturgeon » Tue Oct 11, 2011 4:51 pm

I’m planning to use my new Shimano Calcutta TE 401 as a swimbait reel. Any suggestion on fishing line? Will be throwing Huddleston Deluxe 8” & Spro BBZ -1 8”. :big grin:

20 to 25lbs Big game, but I have high hopes for the new XL with armorcoat. I've been using it a couple of weeks and it's been great so far.

Ideally one rod with 25 lb Big Game mono for the spro especially if it's the floater and 1 rod with 25 lb Trilene Floro for the Hudd. If that's one rod too many I would go 25 lb Big Game for versatility if forced to choose one.

I use P-Line 25# CXX clear or green for 8" swimbaits,17# for up to 3" swimbaits and 20# for the in between sizes. Use a Curado 300 for 17# line and Amb 5500's for the 20 and 25# line, which have been tunned and bearing and drags replaced. I also keep and use plenty of KVD L&L conditioner. Used Big Game line before but I feel the P-Line is stronger and have more confidence in it, although I never had a bass or big striper break the Big Game. I would get small spools of both brands and spool up reel and see what "seems to fit you best" and which one you like.
