I know a few guys that like braid on a cranking rod. They use glass rods or very moderate action and go with 20-30lb braid. It floats, yes, however the reduced diameter makes up for it. Ripping cranks out of grass is muuuuuuuch easier with braid.

I do it almost all the time. I dont change the action of the rod either. I usually use a fast tip with 10 to 20 lbs power pro. Just gotta remember to not set the hook so dang hard and you should be ok.

As long as you adjust for it, you'll be fine. I don't prefer to use it for treble baits, but it does work and makes ripping lipless cranks a lot easier.

A few guys in my club exclusively fish braid . I personally have not used it on crank baits but the other day I did fish an inline spinner on it and loved it. I am going to give it another try during the next tournament to see if I get the same results.

If so, I may give it a try on my crank bait set up.

lipless yes, diving no....

The reasoning for me is:

Lipliess I fish around grass with a graphite rod. Diving I fish around deeper hard cover and I am using a class rod. Why use braid with a parabolic rod? It goes against the reason to use a parabolic rod in my mind atleast.

Use braid for everything.
Tried that Nanofil a bit but that is now getting dusty.

I use braid for everything! Love the sensitivity and the strength in grass / weeds.

I like using fluorocarbon or mono just in case the fish can actually see the line...I really don't think fish see the line or really take much notice to it, but just on the rare case that it does I have that covered. I do use braid when fishing lipless crankbaits though. I can really bomb them out there and rip them through the grass very easily.

I crank very often with braid :big grin: I do loosen up the drag quite a bit and use a 3-7 foot mono or fluoro leader..
