I've done it a lot but often the line gets tangled around the blades. As suggested, braid with a leader and that solves the problem. With bigger blades the lack of stretch from the braid will increase the resistance felt over mono.

Daytime I'll use a leader Not really necc. regardless of clarity.

But there are tons of toothy critters (tigers, pure strain, pike and pickerel) So I'll tie an 8 turn alberto knot, (cinched tight with chapstick) and locked with a 4 turn half hich. (40lb braid to 20 lb whatever..Lately its been Pline Halo, great stuff tough too)

Night time....No leader tied direct. never really had an issue with braid wrapping a blade. I wouldn't worry about it

Thanks for all the answers guys. I dont use a leader unless Im using spinning gear, so I think Ill try straight braid.

Any idea on size of braid I should use?
