STEEL LEEDER COLOR

Post by angry john » Wed Oct 31, 2012 10:16 am

I have a ton of pickerel and pike in the waters i fish, and sometimes i am forced to run a steel leader or loose anything i throw. The spring and fall is the worst time to go unprotected if you will. Does the color of the leeder make a big diffrence. I dont think i like using the shiny stainless, and was considering black or green. Any ideas??????

I target pike and have caught them on both black and silver steel leaders. I don't think they really care, at least from my experience.

I am going to use a 80# fluorocarbon leader for my walleye rig since there are also a lot of pike in the same water. Gonna try the fluoro leader for pike and see how it holds up as well.

spro sells flouro leader for pike in 50 and 80. I hear a lot of guys that chase pike and musky use 100.
