Daiwa Samurai Braid

Post by MTBF » Fri Jan 11, 2013 6:25 am

Hey guys, looking to try this braid on my Spinning rods next summer. I've been looking here http://www.daiwa.com on there web site and noticed they offer a Hi-Vis Yellow. I used there 55lb Green before but found that the line picked up lot's of water and when fishing after a turnover my Core was covered in green slime that was on the surface. After switching to FX2 by Sunline the water pickup by the braid is virtually gone. Left me not liking Samurai but want to give it one more shot.

How is the Hi-Vis yellow? I m thinking of buying a spool in 18lb Yellow and one larger spool of the 15lb Green. How is the colour loss? Does it tie well when adding fluorocarbon leaders? Strictly Samurai only, I know there are lot's of great brands out there but this line has me convinced to try it again.

Thanks for any info,

MTBF

If you like the Sunline FX2, then I would try the SX1. Went to a fishing show where Brett Ehrler was very high on this line. Aaron Martins and Brett helped develope this line. I haven't been using it long, but I really like it so far. Brett uses the 12lb braid with an 8lb flouro leader for dropshotting.

Good to know, I just want to try something new and thin on those Stradic's, I am use to the Fireline TracerBraid but so many people dislike it and I like to know why. I am confident in Sunline, maybe just waiting for the FX1 to come to my area. Is there a Hi-Vis option or just green?

Thanks for the responses,

Mike

Just green right now. I got the 12lb on a Pfluegar Patriarch 9530 and it casts smooth and far. It doesn't have that waxy coating like most braids have. I haven't used it very long, but no color loss or frays of anykind yet.

I never experience the break.

I have heard that this line is rated specifically compared to other brands. Namely, other brands rate on the low side of the pd test breaking strength. So 65lb Power Pro will actually break around 80lbs whereas Samurai Braid rated at 65lb actually breaks at 65lbs.

My question would be, can I upsize my line with samurai braid because of the low line diameter, say 80lb test instead of power pro 65lb. People use line diameter/lb test as a rating for fluoro so why not braid as well right?

my previous favorite line before trying fx2. i still use samurai for 15-40lbs but have gotten soem sx1 to tryout too.

samurai is softer and smoother but i prefer the roundness and durability of sunline.

I find the Sunline not round at all. Roll it on your fingers and you can feel how it flip flops like flat line. I find it to feel a lot like the original Power Pro without all the wax.

I've been using the 55" Samurai for a couple seasons now and I haven't had any breakoffs. I use the yellow and it does eventually fade from its bright yellow but it's not horrible. It doesn't bleed anywhere as bad as Power Pro.

I like daiwa samurai braid I have it in 40lb and 70lb I haven't had any issues with it breaking on me. Looking forward to try the 70lb for heavy flipping and punching.

I have had 0 problems with the 55 and 70 pound lines. They're amazing. I did try the 15 on a PX68 and got rid of it after 2 trips. The line kept snapping off on me.
