6/20 braid on a core50.
6/20 braid on a core50.
Has anyone tried using 6/20 braid on the Core 50? Im thinking the diamter might be too small but boarder line for this size spool.
Thanks, Tony

I used 20 lb braid (Tuf-Line or Suffix) on most of my reels. Have a Core 50MG (and a ScorpionXT1000) loaded with it - zero problems.

Should be no problem. The thinnest line I tried is SX1 16lb .0080 and it's great. The downside is i needed 50 yards of mono backing.

Thank you USA and CND.
Tuff line is the line im going to use. I have the spool from them were you just had to pay shipping

I fish 15lb RipCord Si on a PX Type R...no problems. Might go 20lb just for some more diameter though.

Core50mg7 - No problems with Sufix 20 lb braid on 4 reels. Use in inshore saltwater with 20lb fluoro leader. No problems.

I have 15# Kanzen braid on my Core50mg working fine. Use 15# PPS8S on a CU50E
Re: 6/20 braid on a core50.
Suffix 823 20lb on all my light baitcasters. The diameter is small enough to get plenty on the spool and I get less problems with backlashes in windy conditions. I don't like going lighter than 10lb and with 823 you don't have to.

I've been fishing 15# braid on a lesser reel for some time...the only issue is light " wedging" after landing some larger fish(+3 lbs) and a short cast or two afterwards rectified that...I have a px-r on the way and I intend on trying 10# with that
Re: 6/20 braid on a core50.
Agreed...there is some "wedging" to be had after a strong hookset of fighting a good sized fish.brwn_bggr wrote:I've been fishing 15# braid on a lesser reel for some time...the only issue is light " wedging" after landing some larger fish(+3 lbs) and a short cast or two afterwards rectified that...I have a px-r on the way and I intend on trying 10# with that
BTW...PX-R with light braid on the right rod is magical for finesse techs.

if I may ask,
what technique are you all using with such small diameter braid?

I dont flip/pitch into heavy cover anywhere ever.goldrod wrote:if I may ask,

Use for most everything else cranks/lipless to 3/4, spinners to 3/4oz, jigs mostly under 1/2, Frogs on slop, Ikas/Palm Trees on top of weedmats and anywhere, 1/8-3/8 buzzbaits, 10" Thumper/Anaconda worms.
My largest bass was with 10#PP on bc reel throwing Spro frog on thick slop.

I doubt I'm as well versed as many, here on TT...but I have one rig with 40# set up for punching carpet...I have nothing else with more than 20#...even with that,I'm able to bend/ break a standard wire,Gama 3-0 worm hook...I think I could still set a hook into 1/4 inch armor plate...grin! ...but as mentioned earlier,I might give up something when casting in the wind...I really don't do very well with anything under windy conditiions...though ymmv...!
Re: 6/20 braid on a core50.
It should be fine. I had Daiwa Samurai 15 on my PX68 but got rid of it after two or three trips because of frequent wind knots and a few way too easy snap offs from what I'm guessing is abrasion.
Re: 6/20 braid on a core50.
Pretty much the same with me. 20lb 832 is plenty of power for the majority of fishing needs I have in my very weedy lake.brwn_bggr wrote:goldrod wrote:if I may ask,

I just took 15lb samurai off of my px68 an hour ago. That was my first and last experiment with light samurai: never again. For the reasons you cite. It was not cool.cst wrote:It should be fine. And yes, as others note, 20lb is great on a Core 50.
