fluoro. Leader
fluoro. Leader
I am planning to try braid with fluoro. leader for shaky heads, weightless senkos, wackys, ect. on a spinning rod. Does the brand of fluoro. matter in this situation for a 1-6ft. leader or would a certain brand be better than some others.Would like to see the set-ups for this from those of u that use this. Thanks

Re: fluoro. Leader
I use seaguar leader materal. If you have extra high quality flouro laying around just use that.
Re: fluoro. Leader
A quality fluoro from a bigger spool will work...but the true leader material is supposed to have a more consistent diameter..Truth is it likely doesn't matter if you stick to a quality brand.
Re: fluoro. Leader
Use any decent fluoro ANYTIME you're using the stuff. My preference is Invizx.
I'd use something closer to 6-8 feet. However much is needed for you to reel up the lure to your rod tip without letting your connecting knot get into your reel.

I've used InvisX and Red Label with no problems. Learn to tie the Alberto knot and you'll be set.

I use Seagur Flouro with same # test as braid and tie them up using uni-uni knot.
Re: fluoro. Leader
You don't want to use the same pound test as your braid unless you're using light braid.Lexy 123 wrote:I use Seagur Flouro with same # test as braid and tie them up using uni-uni knot.
My typical setup is 50lb braid with 12lb fluoro leader. 50lb braid is the same thickness as 12lb fluoro or mono.

But you are losing 38 pounds of strength when you do that (assuming both line strength ratings are a bit lower than how strong they actually are, which is usually the case). If you tied a good leader knot, you would get the same amount of force using 12 lb braid and 12 lb leader, wouldn't you? The line is only as strong as it's weakest point.G3Steve wrote:You don't want to use the same pound test as your braid unless you're using light braid.Lexy 123 wrote:I use Seagur Flouro with same # test as braid and tie them up using uni-uni knot.

I use Seaguar FXR 40lbs, with a camo spiderwire 30lbs tied together with a FG knot. I havent tried other brands of fluro's, but seaguar seems to give me a peace of mind everytime im on the water. Have yet to loose lures because of knot failures, either at the terminal or the braid to FC connection.

Re: fluoro. Leader
I tried Seaguar for a while going from red label to abrazx then tatsu all in 15lb and it worked ok but still had quite a few breakoffs. Then I switched to 14lb and 16 lb Toray superhard upgrade and will never look back for leader material. Stuff is almost bullitproof around the heavy timber and held up great in the many rockpiles around here. Tatsu is great for a strait flouro though, didn't like it as much for leaders. To me there is no comparison. Sunline Shooter is pretty much just as good to. Usually using 20 or 30lb Sufix 832 or performance braid with a 9 turn Albright knot and usually the braid breaks first.

I've been using my setup for the last 2 years without any hic-up.G3Steve wrote:You don't want to use the same pound test as your braid unless you're using light braid.Lexy 123 wrote:I use Seagur Flouro with same # test as braid and tie them up using uni-uni knot.

Sufix832 20# with 3-6ft of Seagur 20# fluoro leader for most of my fishing styles.
Sufix832 30# with 3-6ft of Seagur 30# fluoro leader for few others.
