Braid lb for swimbaits
Time to upgrade to new braid for swimbaits.
Been using 65lb power pro original but was wondering what you guys use?
2 to 3oz would be about the heaviest lure....

I have been using 80lb for the past year. Zero breakoffs. Even on stopped casts.

80lb Samurai. Use it for musky fishing with big bucktails and swimbaits. Never casted a bait off, even with a temperamental Revo Toro.
Re: Braid lb for swimbaits
that's good, sounds like 80lb is the way to go. i unfortunately did cast a bull shad off and a pricey a rig set up so i swore it off for heavy baits!BRONZEBACK32 wrote:Just braid, I have never had a swimbait leave me...
Re: Braid lb for swimbaits
been using 50lb Suffix 832 camo on a Revo Beast, no problems, but then again 2-1/2 oz is about the heaviest.
Re: Braid lb for swimbaits
Given the choice, I use 20 - 40lb nylon mono, so you're not alone.jtgibso1 wrote:after i cast a couple of nice baits off using braid i gave that up so i can't be of any help to you! just curious though are you opposed to other lines or just set on braid for the swimbaits?
Re: Braid lb for swimbaits
I've watched a few several hundred dollar/custom painted swimbaits fly off into the horizon with one of my buddies that used to use braid more often than he should. It's scary loud when it happens. Hopefully it is a floating bait when it happens.
Braid obviously shines around grass with soft single hook baits for fish that have to be ripped from the trouble quickly, but the torque created with braid and heavy baits can tear out hooks too easily for me to use it in most circumstances.

Re: Braid lb for swimbaits
I got some seaguar smackdown 65lb today.
First cast, excellent.
Second cast and my rod, reel and hand is covered in water, this line is like a spounge.....WTF
I have 15lb smackdown and its been excellent, not sure if its just the line being this thick or the brand.
Thinking about ripping this crap off and going to suffix 832.
Any other options of braid, or better yet, what braid in 65lb will not soak up water so severely?
Sucks now I'm out $30

Re: Braid lb for swimbaits
I bought myself a nice round baitcaster for my swimbait fishing.
Now I am wondering as well what line to put on and how. I was planning to put on 65# braid with a 25 # fluro leader. What I am wondering now though is: how long should the leader be, what knot. I am worried that the connection knot between the two lines gonna be very big and either damage the guides or reduces my casting distance.
ideas?
Thanks!

Re: Braid lb for swimbaits
I use 40 to 65# power pro braid and 50# suffix. Haven't had a problem with either. I fish in saltwater around structure, eel grass and paddies. Prefer shock leaders of flouro or mono top shots for swimbaits and live

Re: Braid lb for swimbaits
This is the reason many of the guys who fish larger and certainly more expensive bait use a mono or Fluoro.....it is a little more forgiving in the event of a casting calamity.jtgibso1 wrote:after i cast a couple of nice baits off using braid i gave that up so i can't be of any help to you! just curious though are you opposed to other lines or just set on braid for the swimbaits?

Re: Braid lb for swimbaits
I been using 65lb Suffix now, its been decent line but I think I will try 50lb next.
I use a steel leader since I'm fishing for muskie.
But if I didn't use a leader I would tie the braid right to the lure.
