On the Stuter thread, we started talking about top notch lines that aren't manufactured any more. I can name 3, off the top of my head, I think are as good or better than what's available now.
1. Varivas Power Finess
2. Daiwa Air Float
3. GT-R/Sanyo Nylon
All JDM. All from the early to mid 2000s.

Toray Superhard Upgrade, toughest Fluoro I’ve ever used. Shooter is close, but not quite there.

A bit more info on the lines. I was a bit short on description.
1. Varivas Power Finess - A braided line that was like thread. Very wispy but very strong and I don't recall ever having a wind knot. I used the 22 lb test, that if memory serves correctly (but I make no guarantees) was #2. It would handle a good, solid hookset without snapping or popping. Didn't fuzz out too badly.
2. Daiwa Air Float - a hollow construction line for floating baits. Platinum/Silver nylon. THE best line for topwaters.
3. GT-R/Sanyo Nylon - Sanyo Nylon, Applaud Super GT-R Ultra*
* I picked up a new Sanyo Nylon. Is it new and improved? New formula? We shall see.
Jun Sonoda from japantackle.com
Sanyo GT-R Ultra is the most abrasion resistance line in market, with 30 times of resistance to standard nylon lines. Unlike other "heavy cover" lines, GT-R Ultra has very flexible body, to have far less memory. This is a reason I pick GT-R also for crank baits. Lines are flat-winded in spool(110yds spool) to reduce any roughness. Hybrid construction with high-tensile core and high-density, abrasion resistant outer make this superb line. UV protection, water repellant treated for longer life and to maintain initial strength in water. Color: Opaque Dark Green
There you go.

I also rate this line over shooter, but shooter is the closest thing we have to it.
