I'll be casting S-Waver 168, Whopper Plopper 130, 6" Hudds and other glide and swimbaits.

I prefer straight braid and just asking if 50lb braid will work good. Also I've used Power Pro original and wondering also what braid you guys are using for swimbaits and your thoughts.

I use 65 lb test original pp. 50 works fine but every once in a while you might get that dreaded backlash and the line snaps. Never had a problem since switching to the 65 and also get fewer backlashes. Usually I'm fishing around weeds and mostly at night. One thing I noticed when throwing heavier baits on braid is that it will break after extended use about 1 foot from the lure where the line rubs against the tip line guide so I re tie every once in a while.

65# Sufix 832 would be my choice. It is much more abrasion resistant than other braids, mostly due to it being thicker per rated # test vs other braids.

That's what we use when testing.. anything from 0.280 - 0.330 in diameter is the average. Sometimes thicker if it's a really big swimbait but in the range you mentioned no. I also sometimes tie on a mono leader of 20lbs depending on what I have to review and of course, the other alternative is straight 20 or 30lb mono.

I've been running 50lbs Maxcuatro on my 1/2-3oz small SB rod (S-Waver 168, 6 inch Huds etc.) and 65-80lbs Maxcuatro on the big rods (806 and 807). With 50lbs you're not underpowered in my opinion, I've had more glidebaits come off on a cast on the heavy line actually (just because those are 4+oz vs 2oz - twice the force generated, but not twice the line strength).

Then again, with Maxcuatro being as thin as it is (about the diameter of regular 50lb Powerpro), there's not much harm in going to 65, right?

I was throwing the S-Waver 168 on 50 lb. FX2 with a 20 lb. Supernatural leader yesterday. I would use a leader if you are fishing during the day. The fish get a good look at your glide bait if you are fishing it slow in clear water.
