Replacement hooks for jerkbaits
Replacement hooks for jerkbaits
So, I probably sound like a broken record cause I'm posting again about jerkbaits, but oh well, I use them all the time with great success. Anyway, I've got some vision 110's that are due for new hooks. I've been using the stock hooks but they're getting dull and I've had some big smallies even straighten them twice...what are you all using for trebles on jerkbaits (not just visions) that are very strong yet don't throw them off balance?

Re: Replacement hooks for jerkbaits
I use the factory hooks and when they get bent or dull i use to switch to #6 mustad ewg short. The hooks are okay but aren't the sharpest. I recently got a few of the A-mart TGW hooks and they are insane. I landed 8-10 big smallies and never bent the hook and they stayed very sharp.kegger37 wrote:So, I probably sound like a broken record cause I'm posting again about jerkbaits, but oh well, I use them all the time with great success. ^^^That's exactly what I was hoping to hear. I've heard good things about the A-Mart hooks, much more expensive, but once again it looks like you get what you pay for. I'll probably be going with those, unless anyone else has a better suggestion.

These are my favorites for factory replacements.

Re: Replacement hooks for jerkbaits
I fish jerkbaits all year in the salt and had the same problem, bending trebles on big fish. Schooling redfish will do a number on some light wire hooks. Made a post regarding this and a member suggested Gamakatsu EWG short shank 2x hooks. Been using them ever since and they are awesome. Way sharper than the Mustads and point stays sharper longer. Have yet to bend one out on anything. The Owner st36 I was using could no handle the stresses and bent with little pressure. Been using them on Xrap 08 in size 6 and thy are a little heavier but haven't messed up the action at all. Good luck with your decision. I had to try a lot of different hooks before I found the right ones.

I like the Mustad triple grips, the Stingers have been getting used on some of my baits that float up too fast, for those the ST-41 work well.

Mustad KVD Triple Grips. Either the 2x short or the standard lengths. Both available on TW.
Re: Replacement hooks for jerkbaits
Tackle Trap carries the stock 110 replacement hooks. That's what I use.
Re: Replacement hooks for jerkbaits
Mustad KVD short or Owner st-36. That is all.

Re: Replacement hooks for jerkbaits
Unless the bait comes with Gamakatsu stock, I switch to KVD short triple grips. I go up one size from stock because they're shorter.
