Best finesse popper?

Post by jerkbait22 » Thu Apr 06, 2017 8:50 am

I mostly throw the megabass pop max and rio rico but I know that finesse poppers definitely have their place; IE the 1/4oz yellow magic. It's prime jerkbait season here in the northeast, but in a couple months we'll be in the post-spawn where topwater is a great technique. I unfortunately lost my 1/4oz yellow magic last fall to a pickerel so I need to re-up.

What is everyone's favorite "finesse" popper? I guess say 3/8oz or less.

The regular Rico is still the best as far as I'm concerned. It just absolutely catches the fire out of everything, and it spits so effortlessly. My favorite color is Lime Ice. I know there are lots of great little poppers, including the Yellow Magic and new, slightly larger baits like the Duo Realis, and all of them will catch fish, but the Rico is still my first choice.

less would be old school yozuri baits. can not beat them
I have fallen in love with evergreen top water poppers.. simply the best i've ever used.
Pricey but you not prone to loose a topwater bait. I'd rather six evergreen than a trunk full of anything else.

The original Xcalibur Zell Rowland Pop-R baits. Nothing comes close IMO. These were made in the 90s primarily.

I second this, I have a few of these and they flat out get bit over everything else I have.

I find it hard to beat Rico's and Xcalibur Zell poppers, especially when twitched just right.

1/4oz Yellow Magic, and the Jackall Pop Grande are my favorites. The Yellow Magic is LOUD when you want it to be.

For me- still the 06 size chug bug. Pops, walks and catches fish. Tennessee Shad. That is all.
