Pop Max
My Pop Max doesn't pop very often...a Rebel Pop-R will pop much more frequently. Using 50 lb Sufix 832.
I keep reading about how great the Pop Max is, so I really want it to work.
Your views would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Re: Pop Max
It doesn't always give off that characteristic "bloop" that people think of or look for with poppers. However it sure as hell catches fish and big fish too. If you watch closely what it does is roll walks, or that's what megabass calls it I think. It gives off some commotion and roll/flash while barely moving forward. It's a deadly bait.
The first time I ever threw the pop max I had the same reaction as you. I was frankly dissapointed and didn't fish it again for a while. One day I decided to pull it out again and give it a fair shot, and I did real well with it. Since then it's been my go to popper, first one I always tie on. It's responsible for my current PB largemouth.

The best colors are Black Orochi, White Python, and Sexy French Pearl.

I like GG Bass. There was a recent article on the megabass website and the pros said GG Bass, White Python, and a bluegill color like Gill or Pumpkinseed.

Re: Pop Max
I found that too the first time I threw it and thought, "Man, I really screwed up..." However, I found that if I wanted it to give off that loud bloop, I really needed to snap the rod down sharply, and I'm using braid with a 17# mono leader and a 6'7" MHF Omen... I treat it sort of the way I treat a heavy topwater like a super spook with that rod, real gentle input for a more subtle lure movement and sharper ones to get it to be really aggressive.

#6. I ordered some from Megabass. Somehow ordered 4 packs of two each. Oh well, I guess I will eventually use them. I'm convinced that the feathered tail on the Pop x is one of the big things that attract the fish to it.
