Duo Rozante 77 vs Pointer 78, Minnow 80SP vs Flash minnow
Duo Rozante 77 vs Pointer 78, Minnow 80SP vs Flash minnow
I picked up a bunch of Rozante 77s, wondering how you guys compare these to the venerable Pointer 78s?
Likewise the Duo Minnow 80SP vs the discontinued Flash minnow Tr85SPs...both shallow baits, but wondering if certain conditions call for one over the other. The duo minnow suspends almost vertically, head up (tail weighted), the flash minnow slightly head down.
Any other suggestions in that 70-80mm size jerkbaits that you guys consider must haves?

I personally like the flash minnow 95MR but they no longer make them. Good bait to fish over the tops of submergent weed beds when they are about 2-3 feet from the surface.

The new TR95 SP Flash Minnows have been a great shallow water replacement for the 95MR. Not much movement on a straight retrieve, but can really dance when you start twitching it. Still does a full 180 easily, and suspends really well. The 85 size are super light and tiny, but cast well and sit 45 degrees with the head up. I fish them on a fast retrieve and do well early summer on them. No experience with the other baits except for the Pointer, and hard to compare a Pointer and Flash Minnow since they are two very different baits.

Thanks! I just checked again and yes...both flash minnows sit slightly head up. The Duo minnow cocks up at about 85 degrees lol...JBcrankaddict wrote:The new TR95 SP Flash Minnows have been a great shallow water replacement for the 95MR. These two look like they'll play in the same shallow zone, can't wait to try them side by side:

I also buy mine off of EBay. I apologize, I should have said “newer” as I assume they came out after the MR was discontinued. Never saw them available while I was hunting down every last MR I could find Once the MR disappeared these started to pop up instead. Have tried to get more info on the SP, but not much out there.jerkbait22 wrote:

I’m definitely gonna have to try that Duo soon. Always looking for a good alternative to the FM. Thanks for the pic, looks sweet side by side!reason162 wrote:

My Rozante 63 dives deeper than you'd expect, has a wild action, and slowly floats at about 50-60 deg tail up. I'd love to try the larger sizes. The only other duo jerkbait I have is the 100DR and I don't know what it does because it really gets down there.
This is the way.

Interesting, I want to pick up a couple of Rozante 63s too. They all seem to slow float, the 77s...my perch pattern took a LOT of tinkering to get it to suspend. And what a strong magnet Duo put in that bait lol.poisonokie wrote:My Rozante 63 dives deeper than you'd expect, has a wild action, and slowly floats at about 50-60 deg tail up. Have you ever used hard jerkbaits to target flounder? I plan on experimenting with a few deep divers for fluke up here this year.JBcrankaddict wrote:I’m definitely gonna have to try that Duo soon. Always looking for a good alternative to the FM. Thanks for the pic, looks sweet side by side!

Weight transfer baits will spoil you, that's for sure, and duo makes some good ones. My favorite one ever, though, is the now discontinued Ever Green CR02 Combat Crank squarebill. Man, that thing will fly.reason162 wrote:Interesting, I want to pick up a couple of Rozante 63s too. I usually throw jigs for flounder, but have caught a lot of them on a jerkbait while fishing through some shallow flats for trout and reds. Watching one track your jerkbait before biting is pretty cool, they can be pretty aggressive. With the way they chase them down on the flats, I would think a deep diver would work well.reason162 wrote:Have you ever used hard jerkbaits to target flounder?
