Is there a better deep jerkbait than the staysee 90
Is there a better deep jerkbait than the staysee 90
Are there better options out there? I've only ever thrown the LC just wondering if I'm missing out on something better.

Maybe the new Vision 110 +2? I do like the Shadow Rap Deep. Too many northerns around here to throw a 110 all the time.

KVD Deep is good but you need to change out the hardware (splits + hooks).
Ima flit is another one that catches in that deeper range. Will be interested to see how the 110 +2 does this year.

Pointer 100DD is my favorite deep diving jerk by far.
Re: Is there a better deep jerkbait than the staysee 90
I prefer the Jackall DD Squirrel 79 or Pointer XD's over the staysee. They seem to have better action, and have caught a ton on them. If you're looking at bigger sizes, I have the 110 +2 but haven't thrown it yet...the +1 is worth it if you don't have. Someone mentioned the shadow rap deep, and I agree that is a good one too, especially for the price.

The Duo 100DR is a really nice bait that gets down there easily.
This is the way.

I’ve mentioned this before because I fish waters loaded with pike and we know how pike love to munch on Visions and! Contrary to common belief, we/you can throw them using short and low lb test wire leaders with little to no effect. Bass do not seem to care at all. All last year we used eagle claw 5” 12lb wire but I went to the 8” model after a big pike engulfed and ran off with my Vision & leader. Again, Bass do not care and the bait still has all the darting action. Using the 8” We had excellent numbers and size days in late December & early January during the only warm front we had in northern Illinois this winter. The added benefit? You’ll catch some really big pike as well.HobeyBaker wrote:Maybe the new Vision 110 +2? I do like the Shadow Rap Deep. Too many northerns around here to throw a 110 all the time.

Very hard to beat a Staysee 90...
Re: Is there a better deep jerkbait than the staysee 90
I've never had much luck with any jerkbaits. I throw Pointer 78s mostly and have yet to stick one. I have stuck several on TD-80s though. Deep jerkbaits seem like something I wouldn't have much use for even though I love how they look.

I just tested out the new Lightning Staysee...I could not get it down to depth unless I wind slowly. The usual 4-5 quick cranks had the bait tracking sideways back to the surface. Seems to want to blow out on anything but the lightest twitches or pulls.
It was windy and I was on my kayak, but so far a very temperamental jerk!

Good Evening
I am late to this party; but needed to confirm my results fishing this bait from last year. This bait preformed better then expected.
Duel Hardcore longbill jerkbait 90.
It is the same wait as the stayee at 7/16
depth 10 - 12 feet compared to 8 - 10 of the stayee.
Price is cheaper (compared on TW)
I found the action to be responsive next to the boat which translated to being more lively at the end of the cast.
When i twitched the bait sometimes it would have a tail down orientation the next twitch would shoot the bait upwards. i saw that as a plus.
colour selection is limited i have baby bass which seems to be a discontinued colour.
species caught on it so far smallmouth, largemouth, crappie and pike. (had to cut the treble out of the pike, he wanted that bait)

Re: Is there a better deep jerkbait than the staysee 90
I had several(still have a few beat-up ones left) of the smaller discontinued Rogues with a long bill. I think they were for walleye, but I have caught a lot of bass over the yrs with them. The spots on Lanier seemed to like them a lot back when I fished there regularly. They dive quickly, even at slow retrieve speeds, and actually slow-rise when paused. Best of all, they are very erratic and hunt when jerked. That's really when most of the strikes occur.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.
