It's a Yamamoto Chikara crank. I remember picking some up from Bass Pro a couple years back.

Yep, and FWIW there's a reason he gave it to you. On the bright side, they do make good keychains!
This is the way.

I'm fishing dirty water right now, so I can't see the bait's action.
What isn't good about it?

The one I had just didn't do much. It didn't cast well, it rolled on its side too much, it really just kinda looked ridiculous in the water and never got any attention from fish.

Thanks.
I guess that's why they wound up on sale at Walmart.

I went out onto the dock this morning to test swim the two Chikara baits.
They both swam okay, with a tight wiggle and no rolling over.
The chart one swam to the right, so I tried to tune it by bending the line tie slightly, like I do with every other crank that runs to the side. When I did that, the line tie opened up at the front, where it comes out of the bill, as thought it was a figure 8 hook hanger that was installed backwards, with the open end facing forward.
Maybe that's why they would up at Walmart.
I'm going to check them both out later today down in my garage, where the light is better.
As it stands, even though they have great paint jobs, I won't be tying them on.

Now that I think about it, I think I had the squarebill version, which aside from the hooks was just terrible. It seems like I might have had a regular crank like yours, but it was obviously forgettable.

I checked the other bait's line tie, and it's fine. I twisted it like I was tuning it, and it didn't break.
To me, it looks like they just installed the figure 8 line tie backwards, with the open end forward.
I cut and ground off the bad line tie wire, drill a hole on each side of the old wire, and put another line tie in, twisting it underneath the bill, bending it down, and anchoring it with gap filling super glue.
I test fished it this morning, and it ran true. I even slapped off some weed really hard, and it never budged, so I'll probably fish it again.
It's just too pretty to leave at home. Hahaha Of course, if I don't get bit, it'll go back on the shelf in a heartbeat!
