The megabass 110 jr. gets a ton of bites but those #8 hooks are simply too weak for large bass. Even with 10# line they bend out.
So, I’m wondering since they are shorter jerkbaits, if instead of 3 #8s, I put on 2 #5 nano finesse on the front and back, and leave the middle ring hookless....

Is this advisable? Other suggestions?

Ps- the weight of 3 #8s together is 0.83. For 2 #5 nanos it is 0.74g. Pretty close.

10# line is way too heavy. They were designed to be fished on spinning gear with 6# line, that is why so many have issues with the hooks. Drop down to 6# or 8# line with a ML rod and you'll be amazed at the performance. The only problem is you'll have to play the fish out a little bit but you'll land them without any damage to the hooks.

My only ML is 7-1 xFast spinning. Will that work?

I have had zero issues with the hooks bending out on the 110 jr using my conquest 843c but I’m using the saltwater versions. Owner makes the stx-38 in size #8

Set your drag right and you wont bend out any hooks. Back around Thanksgiving, I landed a 6-13 bass on a lucky craft bevy crank with those tiny, wispy stock #8 hooks that came on it. This was with 8# nanobraid, also, so there was no cushion from line stretch. I actually had to cut one of the hooks off to get the lure to let go(because it was bending when I attempted to remove it), then remove the cut part with hemostats. Took about 3 minutes to land her and the hooks did open ever so slightly, but the carbontex did its job with the drag set correctly.

I landed a 14 lb northern pike on a 110 with 6lb test on a medium light spinning rod. The hooks help up fine. I usually fish 110's on 8LB fluoro with a medium power rod. Make sure you set the drag accordingly. Heavier line with too much tension on the drag will bend those hooks as others have said.

What irks me is they come in flat eye hook hangers...hard to find appropriate single hooks for them.
