BPS Reel Trade In Deal

Post by NJBassin » Sat Feb 03, 2007 7:23 am

When my father was down in the Charlotte BPS an employee told him to hold off buying a reel until March because they offer up to $50 off a reel if you donate an old reel (not sure which charity it goes to). I was wondering if anyone has heard or done this before? I was hoping to hear the details, especially how does the discount work. Does it depend on the reel that you donate or the reel that you are purchasing, or both? Thanks for the help.

If I remember right, they collect the old reels to give to charities. They do give a discount off a new reel.

They do this every year.

Yes they do it every year and depending on what the manus want it also depends on what the price of the reel it last year it was 400 and above was 100$ off and so on down the line 50$ off 40$ off. They donate the reels to the give a kid a cast or take a kid fishing foundation, if im not mistaken. Its really not worth it until you get to the high dollar reels IMO. I just donate old reels anyway even if I dont get a reel for that year since they are no use to me. 8-)

They hold the promotion every year at all BPS' during their Fishing Classic in the spring. It's $100 if you're buying a reel $500 and up. They're very strict about it too.
Last year, I got the Stella 3000FB and got $100 off because the original list price was $509.95. However, the Stella 2500FB was $499.95, so I would have only gotten $50 off. I asked the sales associate about that and they said there was absolutely no leeway with the policy or they would get in trouble with the manufacturer (I.E. Shimano). Luckily, the 3000 was the one I wanted! :D

Thanks for the help guys. I am thinking that I am going with the Revo STX, so I may wait and donate an old reel and get the discount. Do you guys have any idea on what kind of discount you would get on the Revo STX? I am sure at 199.95 it is just under the 200 cut off.
