Need help picking a rod.

Post by vArm » Mon Feb 05, 2007 9:45 am

I need suggestions on a good rod to match with my Curado 100D.

I mainly finesse, jig and top water in the North East and was thinking about picking up my 1st high quality rod to go along with the Curado.

I was looking at something like a G-Loomis or AiRRUS rod at around $200 but could use some help picking out the best model for my needs.

Other company suggestions are welcome as well. thnx for ur help.

I've had one for several years and love the Kistler Helium 69APC. It casts light little jigs well, and works well for the topwaters too.

mbr782 or 783 imx would fit well, depending on lure weight...if you shop, you can find them in that price range.

For an all purpose rig, sounds like a job for a Powell 683c or 703c. Light, very sensitive and a joy to fish. Plus you'll come in under your budget.

The AiRRUS Ultra XL UXLC681M or the Spectra SPC701MAFTX are great rods for this technique.

The Puls-R should be out very soon too. :evil22:

Is there going to be a Puls-R review anytime soon?

Loomis 843 or 783 if you like a little shorter rod.

I agree on the Ultra, I use a 6'8"MH with my Curado101D. Great match for my favorite techniques. Hopefully I'll be able to try the Puls-R this spring!

Powell 703 or 683. The 703 weights in at 3.9oz, can cast any bait in my box like one of my loomis medium weight rods and has the backbone of the MBR 844 per the tests TT did. The hook hanger or maybe the split grip are all that I could imagine someone complaining about.
