perfect jerkbait setup

Post by FearNoFish1337 » Sat Mar 24, 2007 9:31 am

I am looking to get a set up just for jerkbaits i will be throwing all sorts of jerkbaits mostly LC 100 and 78's some small and large x-raps. I found this rod by loomis was ideal for jerkbaits. and was wondering what yall think http://products.gloomis.com/gl/products ... 4753710718

its a 6'3 mod-fast medium action im a big fan on diawa reels so im not sure what kind of diawa reel i want to put on this rod. my buddy is sponsored by quantum and he uses the 6'4 mod-fast medium LIGHT and says its the best jerkbait hes ever used and he throws all types of jerkbaits and i thought this rod would be better than the quantum

thx a lot yall

I have that exact rod paired up with a TD-Advantage, and it is God's gift to jerkbaits. Truly wonderful. I really like it because it's relatively short too, I like 6'-6'6" rods, none of these 7-footers for me I always break them in storage because I don't have adequate storage space.

You want a Megabass F4-610XDti Elseil paired with a TD Ito, TD-Z, or TD-Zillion burner. If 6'10" is too long for you go with the 6'5" Cyclone Evolution which is pretty much the same rod.

You asked for the perfect set up and here it is :evil22:

I personally like spinning rods best for jerkbaits. My 7'6" Med. Power Fast action rod is beautiful for X-Raps :) . I get a better feel with fast action rods with jerkbaits, especially for pumping and ripping.

BTW, I'm in chat.

My jerkb8 rig is a MB Jabberwock Evo FTi with a Calcutta 100DC and 10# Yozuri Soft. I like it a bunch (but D.R. has only recently got me into jerkb8s). :D

The Smallmouth gloomis 6'3 is an excellent choice. Another is the MBR 782 in an IMX or GLX graphite. You can likely find a 782 IMX on ebay much cheaper then you can buy the 6/3 smallmouth which is harder to find.

In terms of reels, I would not recommend the Fuego and I own it. I'd go with a MG50 ;) The MG50 throws these more air and weight challenged baits much better then the Fuego. A Sol would be my preference as well if your set on Daiwa. THough I'd really recommend the MG50 or Curado D if price is an issue.

Now thats one Masculine rig

Nice for sure but just a tad too stiff for my preferances, btw how you like that bridged handle? Look/Feel better in person?

Thanks,

it's funny most people here use Baitcasters for jerks. I use to as well but Spinning is the way to go. i've talked to a lot of pros in the areaand most of them use a spinning rod/reel that is of fast or med/fast action and braided line with lead. i notice myself that i get way better action with spinning vs baitcasting.
