Powell 734 CF
Powell 734 CF
Anyone use this rod? I am thinking of getting it for light flipping and carolina rigs. I would like to hear what the Powell users have to say.
Re: Powell 734 CF
Just received one last week. First time out used it as a toad rod and performed very well for that purpose. Will be going out in the morning this time I have it rigged for pitching jigs around docks matched with a Curado 200DHSV with 14lb Gamma copolymer.babfish wrote:Anyone use this rod? Give you more info tomorrow night.

The 734 is a great C-Rig rod! Along with big blades, toads and open water frogs as well. Great choice!

Is the 734c Powell basically the same rod as the 704c? ...just 3 inches longer?? Anyone fished with both? I'm thinking about getting the 704c as an all purpose type 7 foot heavy rod...for carolina rigs, football head jigs in deep water(1/2 oz), big spinnerbaits, and frogging. Any thoughts??

I have the 733 Flip and the 704c. The 733 is a beast design for heavy duty flipping and frogging, but I have caught myself using it for open water worming and it does just fine.
The 704 is rather perfect for crawling football head jigs in deep water. I started my deep water worming and jigging really early in the spring this fall and it's done great. Lots of backbone for driving the hook through bone and scale but a nice feathery tip for telegraphing bottom structure and bites.

Just pulled in the driveway about a hour ago. I must say the 734 was alittle to stout for the smaller finesse jigs I was pitching today, neverless I had 11 bites and 11 fish landed. Mostly 2lbers but did manage one just shy of 4lbs. Personally I didn't think it was so sensitive but considering I was only using a 1/4 ounce jig with a tiny Peca chunk what could one expect. I really needed the 733 for the smaller jigs and think I will use the 734 for carolina/toad rig for now.

Justin I'm wondering the same thing. I just ordered 2 powells this week but the 704 wont be in for awhile so I'm wondering if I should just try the 734. Would there be that big of a difference? Is the 734c Powell basically the same rod as the 704c? ...just 3 inches longer?? Anyone fished with both?
