saltwater finese reels

Post by kevin19870316 » Sat Jul 21, 2007 1:54 am

i wanna purchase a finese bc reel for freshwater bass and some small saltwater species( bream and flathead in australia).
i am generally looking at costal inshore, HRF, alphas 103, bay casting sp 103( might be a bit too heavy for finese fishing though),shimano scorpion.
i don;t really care about the price as i just need one more outfit anyway.
so what do u guys reckon.
tuning reels is considered btw

If you're not concerned about price, get the Shimano Antares AR (Calais 100A). You will be very pleased.

i have palmed antares ar once but the size and weight let me think it should be a all around bait caster instead of a finese reel.
also, i am not a big shimano fan.

if you're not keen on antares, the purple alpha 103 is a very finesse saltwater able reel

Would be hard to go past a daiwa pixy for real ultra light stuff...

Or what about this one....

Personally I would be sticking with a threadline for the lighter finese stuff, especially for bream ;)

without anti-rust bearing and saltwater treated magnesium...it would be a bit of push in saltwater

A Pixy and a Presso would be reduced to a bunch of rusted metal within a month of SW inshore fishing.

Mate stick with the Alphas. excellent light saltwater safe reel. load it with 20lb braid and you could head north and comfortably handle most Barramundi apart from the metre plus models. I use my alphas with 20lb pe daiwa sensor line on a loomis 663 GL3. Great little combo. you can spend all day casting without fatigue. also good for chasing sooties in the fresh. 8-)

Ive been using both my alphas and my conquest 51 here in FLA for trout, snook and jacks with 10-12lb line and man its a blast on those reels...I like the conquest a bit better, but the alphas my G/F has been using caught some nice snook and trout on with no problems...once she remembers to tighten the drag. Alphas for the $$ and the conquest since its so SWEET!

Matey, stick with the Alphas man! I love mine so much I got 2. Another alternative if you're not into purple will be Scorpion 1000/01 or Conquest 50 if you wanna go alittle upmarket from the Scorpion.

I'll back downunder by this time next year cant wait to haul acoupla sliver bream from the Swan with the Alphas.

Cheers
