Search HSTA, you will find several posts. Super reel for the price!

I thought that the HSTA is the new reel with the swept handle used on the Zillion? Is there another one? I am interested also. Thanks.

I believe this is the newest release of the Advantage, the HSTA. Got mine a few weeks ago. Very good quality.

It does have a swept handle and drag star but the bend is even more than the Zillion! I like it so much I just purchased the handle and drag star to put on my TD-Z 105H.

The 10 BB 153 HSTA is the newest I know of. Daiwa also released the 6 BB 153 Tierra. http://www.daiwa.com/Reel/baitcasting.aspx

Is there a newer reel?

DougL58-Where did you order the handle and drag star from? Will the handle also fit Daiwa td-x models? Thanks for any help. I really like the look also. :)

Order the handle and drag star directly from Daiwa. 800-736-4653. Marie is very helpful. On the schematic the handle is Key No. 60, $27.75, part number 6G875101. The drag star is Key No. 58, $28.50, part number 6G874601. These are brand new parts. There are several other parts you may need. I can email the schematic if you need it.

*Note that I found the drive shaft on the TD-Z is a bit short for the HSTA handle and drag star. When backing out the tension, the drag star cannot fully back out. Some tension is left on the spool. Not really a big problem but I am looking a repair/replacement now.

I do not know if this will fit other Daiwas. You would have to experiment. Also note that the total cost of all of the handle components, Key No. 52 to 66 will cost almost as much as the reel!

doug, have you considered shaving off some of the parts to make them thinner?
check the stickied sol thread in the mainenance and supertuning forum.

better is always a matter of perspective and preferance.

the stx has an upgraded drag, but upgrading the drag on the advantage is not difficult at all, even still the stx has a higher max drag.
the stx beats the advantage in the drag category, but the advantage has mag-z while the stx has linear magnetic brakes, the edge goes to the advantage in the brakes category.

some say that daiwas generally are more refined than the stx, i haven't used the stx, so i can't comment on that.

decide what is important to you and see if you can try using each one before you decide.

like maybe you know someone with one, or can go demo one in a store of at a tackle convention.

Are the new Advantages the same size as the old ones?? The old ones were REALLY wide.

The new Advantage HSTA is wide but palms well. Quality and casting for the price is excellent. I do like this reel and will keep one in my line-up. The STX IMO is a better reel overall. I get better distance and accuracy with light lures, 1/8 range. Spool seems to come up to speed faster. Actually I like my SX as much as the STX. HSTA @ $159 - STX @ $199 - SX $149. This one will be up to personal preference. Best decision.. Get one of each!
