Pumpkinseed Sunfish colored crankbaits. Why don't we see it?

Post by Big-Bass » Sun Aug 12, 2007 3:41 pm

I always see crankbaits painted in Bluefill or "Bream" (Red-Eared Sunfish), but never see one painted in Pumpkinseed...why is that I wonder?...here in PA where I fish (and in NY) it seems most lakes/rivers have more Pumpkinseeds than other sunfish about 2:1 with Bluegill...and the bass have to be eating them...I think I am going to have a custom lure painted in Pumpkinseed sunfish and just wanted to know your opinions as to why this color might not be used as much. Thanks.

Check out number 13. Not sure if this is what you are looking for, it has more of a translucent effect in person. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/store ... 00_100-5-1

Matty B I've got one of those baits in that colour and it's an awsome bait but it does not look anything like a Pumpkinseed/sunfish as it is brownish stripped in colour and Pumpkinseeds are blue with yelllow and red spots in colour. The name is the only thing that resembles an actual Pumkinseed in that product. Some Japanese lures in a colour they call Pirania resemble Pumpkinseeds. I just bought a Zip Baits Calibra Jr rattlebait in the Pirania colour and it is not an exact replica but it's close enough to fool an animal will a pea brain I think. Snidley

These baits from Bagley's are the closest I've seen and they work great.

Your right Paul forgot about them, they are excellent baits. I have the shallow and deep diver and they catch Bass, Pike and in the deep diver Steelhead (at the Niagara River run under pencil lead). Great, realistic finish combined with Bagley Balsawood. Quality lures that are proven fishcatchers. snidley
