Here's the TSA's site containing today's list of restricted items. It's such a long and sometimes counterintuitive list that TSA is in a position of having to detect some items that most of us wouldn't think of as restricted.

I have travelled internationally with reels in my carry on luggage post 9-11 without issue, and my reels had line on them. I wasn't stopped or questioned. I guess it depends on who is inpecting you and your items.

I didn't see the prohibition of carrying reels with line at the TSA site. Can someone point out where this is? Thanks!

Here's one about fishing (and hunting). Scroll down to the fishing part:

Strange. They advise you to carry 'fragile' flies in your carry-on baggage :?

I have recently carried reels with line and baits with hooks in my carry on bag. If they are going to ban hooks then they might as well ban bic pens as well.
