Light weight/high line capacity spinning reel
I have a spinning rod which I like for Carolina rigging and some applications with heavier line. It is 7', rated for 15-25lb test, and 3/8 to 1oz bait. I need a spinning reel that's a good match for it. The one I've been using handles the higher test line with good capacity, but it is too heavy and doesn't balance with the rod. I think it's around 20oz. I have put some lighter reels on the rod, just to test weight for balance, and found that it balances with around 12oz or so.
Thumbing the catalogs, it looks like just about all of the spinning reels that balance use too light of a line, and the one's that can handle the line are too heavy.
Any suggestions?

Pflueger Supreme is a US made one of Magnesium. Not salt water capable.
For others, look at Daiwa's magnesium reels. Dollar for dollar, they are lighter than Shimanos. Some are saltwater capable (i.e. Luvias) and some aren't.

12oz in a spinning reels is saltwater size. There's nothing wrong with the lighter reels. Stated capacity is with mono line, and the lighter reels are still capable of high drag settings and good performance.
You'll be able to step up capacity and breaking strain by using braided line. It'll increase your sensitivity too.
For 12 oz, look somewhere around the 4000 size in Shimano, and maybe the 3000 size upwards in Daiwa.

According to Pflueger the supreme is salt water capable. Also, I do not believe it is made in the US.ultralight wrote:Pflueger Supreme is a US made one of Magnesium. Not salt water capable.
