Help me decide - reels
Help me decide - reels
I am in a market for a new reel since my 1997 Chronarch is getting old and I won't be able to get parts to fix it anymore...
Here is the kind of fishing I do... Mostly River now but some tidal water fishing so I would think I do some light salt water fishing as well. I used my Chronarch for the same type of fishing and up till last year, I only have light - very light corrasion on the bearing; so I do clean my reel very often.
With that in mind, do you think getting either Core or Steez will be ok? I know Steez is straightly for fresh water. I would assume the Core is the same.
Any opinion (pros and cons) is greatly appreciated... Thank you.

Reason?

Chronarch. You already see how well they hold up. I have one from about that time and have only cleaned it once. Still chunking and winding.

IMO, try to stay away from MG...unless your tidal waters have no salt...then it is a draw between the Core and Steez...Core comes in two diff gear ratios, HEG and is very nice overall.
Steez comes in two diff spool configurations and is more refined and smoother.
If it was me, I would look for a non-mg light weight LP reel.

I would fish the tidal part of the river... So I should stay away from the Core and Steez... I thought the core supposed to be salt approved...
Anyway, if that is the case, should a Calais be a better choice? Or can you suggest some light salt proved low profile?

Re: Help me decide - reels
revo crushed my finger That is why I did not consider that one.

Charles, SW approved in no means is translated into SW impervious.
Let me put it this way, even non-MG reel will EVENTUALLY give into SW corrosion to some degree. Although Shimano approves the Core for SW, it is still not as good a choice as a non-MG Shimano or non-MG/non-Shimano reel...
I have seen what SW can do to previously approved SW MG Shimano reels, and the damage is considerable and permanent to the frame of the reel.
And to answer your query...yes, the Calais 100/Antares AR should be high on your list of considerations for LP.
