ive been noticing that alot of people are now using flurocarbon these days instead of braid. why is that? becuase in australia everyone uses braid.

Don't want to hijack the thread,but I want to ask a question.I'm ordering a spinning combo from Plat, and i want to order a fluorocarbon line too.Which one would you recommend (it will be used for UL fishing)

It's because FC offer qualities sometimes lacking in other mono lines. I don't think it's braid Vs FC. I use both, need both and would not consider shifting from one to the other. Braid is great but when you need to go into thick cover or around mussels it's doesn't work. I see FC as an improvement over older generation mono but not over braid. Each line has a place and a purpose.

a couple advantages of using fluorocarbon is:

*less visibility in water

*sinks better

*greater sensitivity

I'm actually trying not to have to use fluorocarbon, but I fish Lake Erie alot, and it seems that's what everyones using for dropshotting.
I've been using a high quality copolymer for the last 15 yrs up there, and have been doing just fine, but things have changed over the last few years, and I am being "forced" into using it.

Fluro is also suppose to last longer than mono. I havnt used it enough to say from personal experience, but that is what I have read. With braid the only time I use it is when I am worried about abrassion resistance(mostly in salwater around shell) or when fishing in thick grass or heavy cover for bass.

So you're saying braid has better abrasion resistance than nylon or fc?

As per TT tests / review, I think its more accurate to say.

"NOT ALL Fluorocarbon has less stretch than mono"..

I'm always amazed that Big game has the lowest stretch of the mono lines when I've always thought of it as a trolling line where stretch is desireable. Goes to show. Snidley

I think FC telegraphs so much better than mono if not better than braid especially on slack line. When fishing deeper or clearer water this is a big advantage. I use mostly Seaguar Invizx flouro and it seems to stretch as much as good mono's and copoly's. It does last longer and is more abrasion resistant than mono. Braid lasts longer if your fishing anything other than rocks imo. With so many fish in Cali being pounded its nice to think flouro makes a difference.

if I don't have to replace the line as often and I can feel a tick on slack line. It's worth the coin to me

I think alot of guys are using for its resistance against those Zebras. I find it to be usefull for those situations. I find that you get less cutoffs as you would mono or even braid. I've had braid cut like a knife in some spots. The flouro seems to stand up better. I use it as a leader as well while drop shotting.
