Thanks for all of the great replies so far. If I go by the poll, it's number 1. But after reading so many other great suggestions I may have to rethink the whole thing.

I'm not a tournament fisher. It's me and my fishing buddy going out to lakes here in MO a couple of times a month. I don't want a rod that specializes in one type of fishing technique. I need something that can handle all-around casting stuff from 1/4 oz. to 3/4 oz.

I am assuming that you have $300 cashola or is it in combination with gift certificates?

If real greenbacks...you can do better than any of the pre-set combos mentioned by being creative in your purchasing.

Tournament fishing has little or nothing to do with owning a good setup.

The Crucial CRCX610MH (3/8 to 3/4) or CRCX66MH (3/8 to 1oz). I have the CRCX610MH and really like it, would highly recommend it for an all around rod and I am thinking about buying another one.

Well, thanks to everyone for their advice. It made me look at my choices with a new point of view. Most everyone liked the Revo's so I found a good deal on an STX on Ebay. Before committing to it though I needed to see it first hand, so I went Denny Dennis' place (Skeeter will know who that is) to get a close up look at it. Very impressed with both the SX and STX. While their, I discovered they are selling their Avids at 30% off the $150 price. Nabbed me a 6'2" medium action. Sweet! I was able to upgrade the rod and reel and still keep it under $300.

STX = $170
Avid = $110
Total = $280

Yep, you did better than any of your original combo choices.
