Need help choosing a new baitcasting combo

Post by kramr » Wed Sep 26, 2007 7:12 am

It's my BD this weekend and I have $300 burning a hole in my pocket. There is a Cabela's and a BPS near me so I can go to either one. I want something for casting lures from 1/4 oz to 3/4 oz. Please vote for the one you think offers the best quality vs value.

I suggest the Viento Combo given your choices... However...

If I had $300 burning a hole in my pocket I believe I would look for a closeout deal on a 2007 St Croix Avid. You should be able to pick up a $160 rod for around $125. I would then take the remaining $'s and pair my new Avid with a Daiwa Advantage HSTA or one of the several Fuegos that have been offered here for $150-$170.

I chose #3.
My buddy uses the fish eagle rods and loves them. I've used his a couple times and it's an outstanding rod for the $$$.

Does anyone know the difference between the Revo Sx and Sc? I believe the Sc is a Cabela exclusive but I'm not entirely sure.

None, I would get the new Advantage HSTA that is a sweet reel paired with a Dobyns 704c Champion series, 300 dollars total right there. Now that is what I call a sweet combo I have one so I should know. If it was me I would choose the HSTA over the Fuego.

None of them. With 300 bones burning a hole in my pocket I would snatch a St Croix Avid and spend the rest on a 180 moreso reel.

I agree w/ none. With $300 I would order an Curado 100 or 200HSV from Delo's or Reel fishing deals for $165 (will be delivered in 2-3 days) and then buy my Crucial rod at either Cabelas or BPS for $129, preferably the CRCX610MH or CRCX66MH. This is just my opinion.

Yeah, that´s what I was thinking Daleo, $165 Curado from Delo´s + St Croix Avid @ $119 from BPS ..... sweet !

I love my Quantum reels (energy (2) and 1 tourny edition)

They are a hell of a reel and built like a tank.

Difference is color and 2 bearings in the handle for SC (I own one and took the knobs out and it has 2 bearings) and 4 bearings for the SX.
SX has option for 6.4:1 or 7:1 gear ratio, whereas SC is high speed 7:1 gear ratio.

Check with the Cabela's retail stores near your area if they are still carrying the Revo SC for $79.95. That's how much I picked mine up for 3wks ago and my buddy picked one up today for the same price at the Kansas City store.
Then you'll have $220 for a nice rod.

I concur with Gadget! I want a HSTA even though I need a rod to put it on ... so maybe I need a new combo. Yeah ... a whole new combo!
