Powell 684 CB rod reviews, PLEASE!

Post by deadlift » Sun Sep 30, 2007 5:50 pm

I have agreed with the bait monkey and decided I need to add another cranking rod to the stash. He totally rationalized it ... but I digress.

I ONLY crank with graphite, having no taste to glass or composite rods! hat being said, has anyone used the Powell 684 CB? if so, what are your thoughts?

Generally, I crank with a St. Croix Avid, ML (labeled for dropshotting), which has been great, but the Crucial med. action is a bit much for smaller baits and close quarters cranking. I would be throwing a gamut of different cranks with it, so versatility is key!

If you have recommendations for others, I am open to opinions!

*sighs*

Bait monkey wants to know if the Alpha 103 or Alpha Type-F might be a good match for this ...

I use the Dobyns 684CB with an Alphas 103 and it performs flawlessly.

I agree with Splash. The Dobyns 684CB paired with a Alphas 103 is a killer combo for cranks. I use a Conquest 50 and a Conquest 100 on both of my Dobyns 684CB rods. How sweet it is.

Thanks, guys!

Can you all give me a description of the action and whether it is all graphite? I couldn't find a description ... I really don't want that glass feel!

Will

* BTW - Why is the Type-F cheaper even though it has more bearings and is lighter? TIA!

The 684C is graphite. I don't like the feel of a glass rod either.
