Abu Anti-Backlash

Post by Vladimir_Kazan » Mon Apr 18, 2005 3:50 pm

Hi!
My friend have Abu AB4600, but without the manual.
We do not know, how it to use with the system "Anti-Backlash".
How correctly to insert line in this reel?
Thanks!

Just put this thing off, it`s not even worth trying. With any Abu C-Series it is just impossible to make a backlash, they`re so easy to cast. With this AB thing, you will cast a half less distance.
Best regards,
Bartek

Yes, he so also uses it - with the out-of-operation system.
However to know: as it works, as it to use, - it is interesting. Sometimes it is necessary to give to try to the newbie angler, and it is better, that he has not created a bird's nest... The line is a pity :).
Who knows - suggest, please.

Hi Vladimir,

I used to have one of these reels so I will try to remember how it works. There is a grey spring loaded lever on top of the reel (Anti-backlash device). On the underside of this lever is a steel bar. The line must pass over this steel bar, then out of the reel through the usual levelwind guide.

The way it works is that when the line is tight during a cast, the line will travel straight over the bar and out of the reel. As soon as there is slack in the line (beginning of birdsnest) the spring loaded lever will raise up and apply brakes to the spool, preventing the birdsnest. It is very effective, but does reduce casting distance a little. Perfect for kids or new anglers.

If I remember correctly, you can also disable the AB device.

Good Luck,
Mark
