senko reel
senko reel
i am looking for a reel that can really throw/pitch senkos good, will also throw some other things too. i own all shimano and a daiwa Fuego reel and am not too brand loyal. i am looking at the Curado CU100D and the Daiwa TDX103 Supertuned. both had great reviews and cost about the same. i know i would like either but was just looking for an outside opinion. i have bought and returned 3 reels(1 pflueger, 1 BPS, 1 Quantum) already this year, and really want one that will last. i know the Tackle Tour boys can give me a good, respectable opinion.
P.S. reel will go on a Kistler He69APC...Reels weight is not too much of a factor

Re: senko reel
Scorpion 1000/1001 is a fine choice, IMHO.

You didnt mention what your Shimanos are. But the Scorpion is a very good choice. A Daiwa Pixy is a lot of fun as well.

I had the same dilemna but found a great deal off ebay for TD-x103 HSDF and went with the Daiwa. I like the Magforce convience over the VBS. I think the spool start up on the Daiwa has an edge over the Shimano. I also have two Daiwa Sealines and they have no problem tossing a fly- lined sardines
Re: senko reel
I paired the Alpha Ito with the Loomis Recoil BCR802 and a 5" Senko. So far, 10 fish landed and 6 lost all within a half hour of fishing over two days. It cast the 5" Senko weightless t-rigged really well with 10lb Suffix Siege.

Of the two choices you mentioned, I would go with the 100D Curado. That's a sweet reel. Great for pitching and casting.

Re: senko reel
and between Curado 100D and Alphas Itö, what would be your reel of choice?
They are both in my target, but I cannot decide....or should I better go for a Calcutta Conquest 50s?
Problemssssss

Re: senko reel
Welcome to the forum. My dedicated Senko set up is a TDZ 103H on a Loomis BCR893 GLX, feels like I can cast a weightless Senko down a football field with this setup. Spend the extra few bucks and get the TDZ over the TDX, you'll be glad you did!

I have no experience with the Alphas Ito...but I do know that the 100D is a great reel. There are some other guys on the forum that own the Ito that could tell you about it...

Re: senko reel
I use the same combo as airfob, a BCR893 and a TD-Z. The rod works great for weightless 5" and 6" senkos, and also makes a nice flipping and pitching rod for moderate cover. There's plenty of backbone for moving a decent bass out of cover with that combo.
A BCR803 with a TD-ito is the combo I now use for 4" weightless senkos, 1/8 to 1/4 oz swimming jigs/trailers, and 1/8 oz standup jigs with creature baits. Similiar action to the 893, but the ito works so nice with lighter weighted lures, especially in the wind.
The ito has been tuned for lighter lure presentations. Over 1/4 oz, I don't notice much with the tuning, but it is definately noticable below that. The light weight of the reel makes it a pleasure to use for extended periods.
