Fuego

Post by D.R. » Thu May 18, 2006 4:52 pm

How long is the handle?

Can the Knobs be removed, or do they have rivits?

I have one on the way, and already planning to tinker with the handle and the bearing system.

Thanks

DR,
The handle is the normal size as the TD-Z, 80mm, and looks like the TD-Z. However, it has riveted knobs that can't be removed or upgraded. Too bad, because the knobs are textured with multiple grooves and they feel a little nicer and softer than the other Daiwa knobs.

You could drill out the rivets and upgrade how ever you want.

Have machine shop, will tinker.

Thank you.

I have a TDZ handle. I will remove the knobs from the Fuego and give it a whirl.

Thank you again.

DR,
If you are serious about tinkering with riveted Daiwa handles, I can send you a half-dozen or so, and you can go at it. Just let me know.

Chuck,

I have one at work off my Sol that I am going to play with, time permitting.

I want to drill and tap the ends to be able to add a bearing. Give me some time, I will keep you posted.

See if you can find some 5:1 gears to work in the Fuego. The line recovery test I did on mine is 27", way too fast for me for spinnerbaits.

Thanks Jason,

But! The Fuego is going on my new BCR803. I want to keep the speed.

I have a Kistler Helium 69APC w/Alphas 103F (12# Yo-Zuri) set up just for spinnerbaits. That is that rods only purpose.

The knob shaft is a soft brass or bronze. It is 4.5 mm round shaft with no shoulders. The shaft is too short after removing the top part of the shaft (brad) to drill and tap with out it putting a strain on the inter bearing race.

I'll probably end up with a Sol or Alphas for spinnerbaits. I just got a Sol last week and really like it, but I don't know how much 15# line it'll hold. I probably don't need more line, but if something weird happens and gets 20-30 yards of my line it could get me way into the spool.

Jason,
I put a Sol on a 68XM Elite. It is a great match for finesse.
