Flipping Jig without the Heavy Hook?
Flipping Jig without the Heavy Hook?
Does anyone know of some 3/8 - 1/2 oz. flipping style jigs with a medium or even light wire, round bend hook? I'm generally not fishing in cover that's heavy enough to warrant a broomstick and braided line, and I feel like I lose fish sometimes because I'm not getting good penetration with the big heavy hooks.

Re: Flipping Jig without the Heavy Hook?
How about something like an Eakins jig? I make them up to 7/16oz with a standard wire hook which isn't close to a flipping hook. It has a round ball head and I use a finer wee guard as the 1/8" fiber guards are too thick so I use one that is just a hair over 1/16" diameter. I use them to pitch to sparse cover and docks and they are great with a chunk or craw in clear water.
Re: Flipping Jig without the Heavy Hook?
Yeah, I actually really like Eakins jigs, but I have something different in mind. I don't think the wire guard would be optimal for the cover I fish. It seems that some swim jigs have lighter hooks, so maybe I'll give some of those a shot...

Yes, I saw those a few minutes ago! The All Terrain finesse jig looks promising as well:

I'm going to try both of them.

The Eakins flippin jig maybe. It used to have a round bend hook that I liked better. I make my own jigs with a 32798 mustad.
Re: Flipping Jig without the Heavy Hook?
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to try all of these.

AT jigs are really great. I have about all the models. Try out the swim jig while you're at it, if you'd like. Thats the best-designed swim jig I've ever used. The Grassmaster sheds junk amazingly well.
If you ever throw stuff like 7 inch power worms, the Mighty Jig is outstanding.
You can order direct from their website if you see colors and weights you might prefer (there are more choices than TW or anywhere else...I have bought from them direct, no issues at all, and I think the prices are comparable).
No idea why other jig manufacturers don't make more jigs with the eye buried like most of AT jigs.

BOSS finesse flip in 7/16...comes with either a regular or fine wire hook.
Phenix signature casting jigs.
As mentioned above, the 3/8 Eakins finesse flipping jig is definitely worth a try too.

You check out northstar?
Re: Flipping Jig without the Heavy Hook?
I know have a couple trips under my belt with the All Terrain Finesse Jig, and I am very pleased with its performance. Even with its lighter brush guard, it seemingly comes through woody cover just as well as most heavy cover jigs. I purchased a couple of the Omega Finesse Jigs as well, but have yet to fish them. They are more compact with a smaller hook. The quality looks great.

Definitely try the omega finesse pitching jig. They have a lighter hook that is better for fluorocarbon.

Oh, very nice. I'll have to give one of those a shot, too.CSFishing wrote:Outkast Tackle RT jig...
