When to use 1/8!and 1/4?
My jigs are mostly 3/8 and 1/2.
But I have some 1/8 and 1/4....BUT unsure on when to use the lighter weights.
Would appreciate your views.
Thanks,
Fred

Re: When to use 1/8!and 1/4?
I use 1/8 and 1/4 oz jigs 95 % of the time unless I'm fishing in deeper water 15+ feet. I like the small profile, and I also believe that jigs that small have a much different action as they slowly fall in the water column. Also when dragged on the bottom, they have a tendency to float more thus enticing fish strikes. No need for me to use heavy jigs. The trailer will add the weight needed for casting.

I usually downsize when the bass aren't biting that good. There is always the choice of finesse jigs in the 1/4 oz to 3/8 oz range also. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Pepper_C ... PMCRO.html
Thanks for the epiphany captain obvious

I use lighter jigs in open water and grass. If I'm fishing wood, it's 3/8 or 1/2 oz.
Re: When to use 1/8!and 1/4?
I use 1/8 jig head and small paddle tails with a swimming presentation when I'm not getting bit on the bigger baits. The difference in catch rate can be transformative some times. I rarely throw an 1/8 oz traditional bass jig and instead opt for ned rig if I'm fishing a jig on the bottom and want to downsize.

Dee Thomas is famous on the CA Delta for flipping a 1/4 oz jig with a reaper trailer.

The only time I use that light of jig is for clear shallow water...
Re: When to use 1/8!and 1/4?
I use lighter jigs up to 1\4 when fishing in cold water below 60*. The slow fall of the small jigs is important especially when water is below 50*. Light slow falling jigs are also great for the pressured NJ bass I fish. I love fishing 1\16-1\8 hair jigs in Dec-Mar and 1\4 oz jigs though the spring and again in the fall. This month I've been hammering bass on a homemade 3\16 oz finesse jig with a bucktail undercoat and small rabbit zonker strips to act as a very natural trailer. Throw the light weights, good luck.
